Duties And Responsibilities
Project Management
- Direct, coordinate, and report on the operation of engineering activities.
- Ensure formal processes are implemented and maintained to support product development in alignment with operational objectives.
- Implement and audit policies, procedures, protocols, and controls for the engineering department (e.g., process flow, time tracking, and task progress audits).
- Support management in developing plans and coordinating programs.
- Assess risks and plan mitigations associated with all engineering deliverables for ongoing programs.
- Review and approve time spent by staff on tasks, making adjustments to assignments or scope as needed to maintain project and budget objectives.
- Provide direction, motivation, and guidance to staff, acting as both manager and mentor.
- Offer operational leadership and mentorship to engineering staff to maximize growth and profitability.
- Resolve schedule and/or budgeting conflicts with engineering team leads and program management.
- Support recruitment efforts by defining technical requirements and screening candidates.
- Verify that vendor and third-party contracts meet organizational needs.
- Report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
- Audit and report on the Engineering Department’s performance in achieving operational objectives.
- Audit and report on the quality of engineering deliverables.
- Communicate professionally across all channels, including in-person, phone, email, and digital media.
- Develop departmental budget for management approval in consultation with the Chief Engineer.
- Assist in hiring staff to meet scheduled commitments.
- Support the CEO in personnel administration and coordination of engineering teams to achieve company goals.
- Assist Business Development in preparing bids, proposals, and resource estimates for new projects.
- Ensure intellectual property rights are maintained and protected in all interactions with customers, vendors, and external agencies.
- Ensure ITAR compliance and maintain tracking procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent credentials.
- 15–25 years of direct engineering experience in the aerospace industry, including project ownership and personnel supervision.
- Minimum 5 years of experience managing team expenses within a budget and tasks within a schedule.
- Ability to perform and train personnel in detailed engineering project management methods, including planning, work breakdowns, budgeting, scheduling, and performance tracking.
- Experience establishing contractual relationships with customers, vendors, and third parties.
- Familiarity with ERP and project tracking software such as Oracle Primavera and/or Atlassian JIRA.
- Experience with PDM software such as SolidWorks EPDM and/or Autodesk Vault.
- Ability to evaluate detailed 3D designs, CAD drawings, and related documents.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple demands efficiently.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
- Proficiency in technical report writing, fluent in English (spoken and written), and skilled in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Teams.
- Experience working with government regulatory bodies such as the U.S. Department of Defense or FAA regarding aircraft design, analysis, and compliance.
- Experience maintaining control over data related to intellectual property rights and ITAR/CG regulations.
- Experience with fabrication and machining of metallic components, polymers, adhesives, structural fasteners, and composites (fiberglass/carbon/sandwich).
- Experience with design work from conceptual stages through full 3D modeling, FEA analysis, hand calculations, and manufacturing.
- Experience with functional and structural testing of aerospace flight hardware.
- Familiarity with structural analysis methods, including hand calculations using resources such as MMPDS, Bruhn, and Roark.
