Position Summary
The Laboratory Technologist analyzes blood and body fluids as a diagnostic aid to the physicians by producing accurate and precise test results. This position also has the responsibility of training students, and new employees. The technologist must be able to accurately enter test results into the LIS and communicate effectively throughout the hospital.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution or MT (HEW) certification.
Required Certification
MT (ASCP), MT (AMT), MLS(ASCP) or equivalent. Must meet CLIA education requirements for testing personnel performing high complexity testing.
B. Job Knowledge
Must have a thorough understanding of Clinical Laboratory Procedures.
Unusual Physical Demands And Working Conditions
Requires ability to lift and move boxes of supplies weighing up to 30 pounds.
B. Job requires extended periods of standing, walking, and use of stairway.
C. Job involves exposure to bio-hazardous materials, chemicals, and potential infectious diseases.
