We are seeking a detail-oriented Research Support Technician to assist with insect rearing and greenhouse trial activities under the direct supervision of a lead scientist.
Pay: $23-26/hr depending on experience and background
Position Overview
This role supports ongoing research programs through hands-on insect colony maintenance and greenhouse trial assistance. The ideal candidate is comfortable working in controlled environmental conditions, following detailed protocols, and maintaining accurate records in a fast-paced research setting.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Insect Rearing (Primary Focus)
Pay Details: $23.00 to $26.00 per hour

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Insect Rearing (Primary Focus)
- Rear and maintain fall armyworm and corn rootworm colonies in controlled, warm, and humid environments
- Plant and maintain corn in rearing containers using approved soil media
- Collect and handle insects across multiple life stages
- Prepare and dispense specialized insect diets according to established protocols
- Monitor insect colony health and development on a daily basis
- Accurately document rearing activities and observations in Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS)
- Assist with root harvest activities
- Wash and prepare root samples for evaluation
- Clean and sanitize workspaces and equipment following harvest activities
- Accurately record and document greenhouse trial data
- Follow all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety guidelines
- Maintain clean, organized, and compliant work areas
- Communicate observations, deviations, or issues to the supervising scientist
- Participate in team meetings and required training sessions
- Attention to Detail: Ability to follow precise instructions and maintain accurate records
- Manual Dexterity: Comfortable handling small insects and delicate plant materials
- Reading Comprehension: Ability to understand and execute written protocols
- Data Entry: Familiarity with computer systems and LIMS databases
- Communication: Clear verbal and written communication skills
- Physical Stamina: Ability to work in warm, humid environments and perform repetitive tasks
- Time Management: Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Tolerance for warm and humid working conditions
- Bachelor's degree in a related scientific discipline may be preferred , depending on experience
Pay Details: $23.00 to $26.00 per hour
