Job Description
The New York County District Attorney's Office (DANY) has an opening for an Investigative Analyst for its Hate Crimes Unit in the Trial Division. In this role, the Analyst will help Hate Crimes ADAs build and enhance complex hate crime cases and investigations, and will assist with large-scale data collection, organization, and analysis.
Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
- Assist ADAs in developing long-term investigations into criminal bias-motivated activity.
- Create PowerPoints, graphs, diagrams, spreadsheets, charts, maps, video compilations, and other visual aids for investigative use, grand jury proceedings, and trial presentations on hate crime cases.
- Testify in grand jury proceedings, hearings, and trials by describing analytical processes and responding to cross-examination about such processes.
- Collect and analyze data relevant to hate crime investigations and cases, including but not limited to surveillance video, statements captured on body-worn camera, cell phone data, phone records and extraction reports, social media and other online service records, jail calls, out-of-state records, 61 reports, and bank records.
- Collaborate with the High Technology Analysis Unit and assist ADAs in interpreting and understanding forensic reports and results.
- Assist ADAs in collecting and processing discovery for complex hate crime cases, including but not limited to multi-incident pattern hate crimes, and in the witness interview process.
- Create and maintain various in-house databases, filing, and records management systems.
- Must participate in various trainings to support professional development.
- Readiness to quickly learn about and adapt to rapid changes in technology, social media platforms, communication apps, and computer systems.
- Stay up to date on local, national, and international news regarding bias and hate crimes, trends, community events, etc.
- Perform related responsibilities and duties, including but not limited to administrative and clerical tasks, as assigned.
- Level 1 - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and one (1) year of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent.
- Level 2 - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and two (2) years of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent.
- Level 3 - Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college and three (3) years of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent.
Preferred Requirements/Skills
- 2 - 4 years of experience either as a paralegal in the criminal justice field or equivalent based on the level.
- Prior law enforcement or investigative agency experience.
- Excellent organization, communication, time management, writing and creative problem-solving skills are essential.
- Strong attention to detail and high concern for data accuracy.
- Literacy in computer applications, including PowerPoint and Excel required; knowledge of AJIS, Clear, Bloomberg, and other CityNet systems.
- Proficiency in Internet search strategies and techniques.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Perform all assignments in an accurate, professional, and expeditious manner.

- Current office employees: To be eligible for a transfer or promotion, staff must have already served at least one (1) year in their current unit/bureau/department and be in good standing. In addition, must meet the minimum and additional qualifications of the position.
