Job Description

Job Summary:

As an HSE Specialist at Safran Electronics & Defense Avionics, you will be a driving force behind our commitment to workplace health, safety, and environmental excellence. You will play a key role in implementing, monitoring, and improving the HSE Management System for Grand Prairie, TX site. Your expertise and proactive approach will help maintain compliance with legal requirements and ensure a culture focused on accident prevention and environmental protection.

Essential Job Functions

  • Health and Safety Compliance: Ensure full compliance with OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) regulations, including conducting regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Safety Program Management: Ensuring the implementation of proactive measures such as hazard communication, injury/illness prevention programs (IIPP), and emergency response plans.
  • Accident Investigations: Lead investigations into workplace incidents and accidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions to prevent future occurrences. Active participation in achieving the corporate and local goals for the HSE program.
  • Fire Life Safety Program: - Oversee the inspection and maintenance of the firefighting system to ensure the facilities are in good condition and meet the local code requirement. Support local efforts to improve fire safety policies and procedures.
  • Emergency Response Coordination: Be the primary point of contact for emergency response situations, coordinating evacuations, drills, and ensuring readiness for unforeseen events.
  • Compliance with OSHA regulations: Ensure that the company meets all health and safety regulations, OSHA standards, workers' compensation requirements, and environmental health and safety laws.
  • Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all health and safety incidents, training, inspections, and compliance activities. Prepare and submit required regulatory reports to federal and state agencies, including OSHA logs and injury reports.
  • Training and Education: Develop and deliver regular training programs on safety protocols, including emergency procedures, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), safe handling of hazardous materials, and workplace ergonomics.
  • Continuous Improvement: Work closely with leadership to continuously improve health and safety protocols, striving to enhance the overall safety culture across the organization.
  • General - Interact with and develop collaborative relationships with police, fire, city and other government authorities, to perform inspections, and develop program plans for critical programs.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Physical & Travel Requirements

  • Must be able to work in both office and manufacturing/field environments.
  • Must be able to occasionally lift/move up to 75 pounds and work at heights when required.
  • Must be available for on-call HSE support as necessary.
  • Potential travel between Irvine, Calexico, Redmond and other locations including Mexicali up to 10%.

Required Competencies

Candidate skills & requirements

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field - or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5 years in a Health, Safety, and Environment role, preferably in manufacturing, electronics, or industrial environments.
  • OSHA certification required; additional certifications (e.g., ISO 14001 auditor, environmental compliance, hazardous materials) are a plus.

Leadership Skills / Management Skills / Personal Skills

  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and state/local regulations.
  • Familiarity with risk assessment methodologies, incident investigation, and root cause analysis.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with HSE management software/tools preferred.

Behavioral Skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
  • Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective problem-solving.
  • Proactive, collaborative, adaptable to a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
