Director, Organizational Effectiveness

Job Overview

The Director, Organization Effectiveness (OE) will be a pivotal member of the OE Team, partnering with business leaders to address adaptive business challenges. This role focuses on aligning people, processes, structures, and culture with strategic goals to achieve meaningful outcomes. They will leverage expertise in processes, tools, and methodologies to enhance organizational performance, agility, and employee engagement, driving transformation from within.

The Director, OE will enable high-impact projects critical to the delivery of our business strategy. As an internal advisor, the incumbent will collaborate closely with business leaders, HR Business Partners, and Centers of Excellence globally to diagnose organizational challenges, identify improvement opportunities, and develop solutions to enhance effectiveness. Enabling the enterprise on a continuous improvement journey to deliver enhanced organizational performance, foster a positive work culture, and support long-term business success.

This position reports to the Global Head of Organization Effectiveness and is based in Foster City, CA. It requires working on campus three days per week during core collaboration days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).

Responsibilities

Org Effectiveness & Transformation Consulting

  • Assess organization health, effectiveness, and readiness for change through diagnostics including org design reviews, cultures assessments, team effectiveness assessments, etc.
  • Identify misalignments between strategy and execution or pain points in how work gets done.
  • Design and implement change management strategies to enhance adoption and sustainment of new initiatives, minimize resistance, and sustain new ways of working.
  • Utilizes data-driven approaches to assess the impact of change and foster a culture that embraces innovation.
  • Develop and support transformation strategies such as org redesign, operating models shifts, capability building.
  • Support major initiatives such as digital transformation, mergers, restructure, or agile ways of working by aligning teams and resources.

Enterprise Strategic Projects / Programs

  • Partners on high-value and complex programs/projects from inception through execution, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and leveraging OE practices, tools and capabilities to ensure outcomes. Works across Talent, Development and Inclusion to align capabilities and approaches to deliver projects or programs.
  • Uses metrics and analyzes data to drive insights related to organizational health and effectiveness in collaboration across Talent, Development, and Inclusion and People Analytics
  • Designs and implements metrics to support performance improvement or organizational health outcomes with a future-oriented mindset and simple, user-friendly approaches.

Capability Building

  • Partners to embed OE capabilities in HR and the business. Brings expertise to develop frameworks, tools and approaches for use with diverse audiences.
  • Play a key role in enabling HR capability development in selected domain areas (Org Design, Change Management / Leadership, Team Effectiveness, Culture)
  • Act as a thought partner to senior leaders and HRBPs, providing insights, frameworks, and constructive challenges where needed.
  • Help shape and embed a culture that supports business goals.
  • Enable leaders to model desired behaviors and lead change effectively.
  • Collaborate with OE Team to identify approach to prioritize, measure, and track OE initiatives ensuring tangible results.

Knowledge, Experience, And Skills

  • An advanced degree in Organizational Development, HR, or Business Administration, or a related field and minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in Organizational Effectiveness, Organizational Development, Management Consulting, HR or Business Strategy.
  • Proven track record in leading complex transformation efforts and driving organizational design and change. Strong expertise in change management principles and methodologies (Prosci Certification is preferred).
  • Experience working with senior leaders and cross functional teams. Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with strong facilitation and influencing abilities.
  • Ability to assess and prioritize conflicting business priorities, quickly resolve issues and address root causes while multi-tasking in a high-pressure environment.
  • Deep understanding of strategic and operational drivers of business performance.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead by influence outside of hierarchical structures and build strong, collaborative relationships within and outside of HR.
  • Experience in the Pharmaceutical/Biotech industry preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills, including utilizing data-driven approaches to develop insights, diagnose opportunities, and inform decision-making.
  • Global experience, with a history of partnering with teams across geographies.

The salary range for this position is: $210,375.00 - $272,250.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package.
