Manages all aspects of the transportation function in a fast-paced, customer-oriented environment, including selection of qualified drivers, routing, driving, safety, unloading, fleet maintenance, customer/driver relationships, and Department of Transportation (DOT) and Operating Company (OpCo) compliance. Includes involvement with the driver selection and orientation process, handling employee relations issues including disciplinary action, monitoring DOT and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) compliance, managing Transportation Supervisors and monitoring the routing process to ensure customer satisfaction. Responsibilities May Include, But Not Limited To
- Supervises associates to include, but not limited to: staffing, training, coaching, performance management and problem resolution. May include Supervisor, Transportation and/or staff of drivers to ensure deliveries are made in a safe, efficient and timely manner, maintaining dependability and customer satisfaction
- Oversees day-to-day administration of delivery function including: managing, monitoring and approving department expenses, calculating driver payroll, reviewing driver trip and expense reports, and identifying and resolving problems. Operates a computer keyboard to enter and access data in automated fleet management system (e.g., Tripmaster and Xata); ensures truck computer system is monitored and maintained.
- Works closely with Warehouse Manager to ensure the highest level of efficiency within the operation.
- Responsible for scheduling truck deliveries and routing on a daily basis, including backhauls, and changes routes accordingly to meet customer needs and to maximize route profitability. Responsible for equipment scheduling and maintenance. Analyzes equipment needs (trucks, tractors, trailers) and determines type and number required. Sets up rental of additional vehicles as required and schedules equipment maintenance as necessary.
- Responsible for DOT compliance, monitoring DOT logs and ensuring drivers comply with DOT regulations.
- Maintains and updates all relevant information on drivers such as license, DOT medical certification, tickets for moving violations, accidents, and other risk and safety-related data.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
