This role will serve as a crucial bridge between technical teams, business stakeholders, and senior leadership, ensuring projects maintain focus, achieve measurable results, and deliver value within defined timeframes.

Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Execution

  • Define, communicate, and manage project scope to prevent scope creep and maintain team focus on achievable deliverables.
  • Create and maintain detailed project plans with clear tasks, dependencies, and deadlines.
  • Identify and remove obstacles that impede project progress, including issues around networking, IT security, and cross-team dependencies.
  • Drive projects to completion by maintaining team focus on specific, measurable goals.
  • Ensure transparent communication of project status, risks, and deliverables to stakeholders and senior management.

Risk & Dependency Management

  • Proactively identify, assess, communicate, and mitigate project risks and dependencies.
  • Manage critical dependencies involving networking, IT security, and infrastructure teams.
  • Identify key-person risks and recommend appropriate staffing solutions
  • Establish early warning systems for potential delays or blocking issues
  • Track and escalate risks that could impact successful delivery of key objectives

Team Coordination & Communication

  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across development, DevOps, platform, and infrastructure teams.
  • Define and communicate roles and responsibilities clearly to all project participants.
  • Coach team members to stay focused on results-driven outcomes and measurable deliverables.
  • Build shared accountability for project success among all stakeholders
  • Work with team members to overcome "learned helplessness" and establish patterns of success

Process Implementation & Improvement

  • Implement structured project management practices appropriate for technology delivery.
  • Establish and maintain disciplined software delivery lifecycle with appropriate IT controls.
  • Work toward implementing change management, incident management, and problem management processes.
  • Champion the development of a healthy DevOps culture emphasizing communication and collaboration.
  • Create feedback loops to improve organizational learning from successes and setbacks.

Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for project status and communication to senior leadership.
  • Provide regular, transparent updates on project progress, challenges, and resource needs.
  • Manage expectations across 30 stakeholders with varying technical and business perspectives.
  • Facilitate structured interviews and stakeholder engagement as needed.
  • Translate technical complexity into business-relevant communications.

Required Qualifications

Technical Background

  • 5 years of experience in technical project management, preferably within software development or DevOps environments
  • Strong understanding of modern DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Familiarity with platform engineering concepts and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform)
  • Experience with application deployment pipelines and container orchestration platforms
  • Solid understanding of IT controls, change management, and software delivery lifecycle processes

Project Management Expertise

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex technical projects with multiple dependencies
  • Proven track record of delivering projects on time and within scope in dynamic environments
  • Experience managing projects where technical teams may initially lack focus or direction
  • Strong skills in risk identification, assessment, and mitigation
  • Experience managing projects involving both on-premises and cloud infrastructure

Leadership & Communication

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
  • Experience coaching technical teams to improve focus, accountability, and results
  • Proven ability to identify and remove organizational obstacles to achieve project success
  • Strong facilitation skills for managing stakeholder expectations and building consensus
  • Experience working with geographically distributed teams and external vendors/contractors

Behavioral Competencies

  • Results-driven with a strong bias toward action and measurable outcomes
  • Able to maintain composure and focus in ambiguous or challenging situations
  • Skilled at building trust and psychological safety within technical teams
  • Patient and persistent when navigating organizational resistance to change
  • Proactive problem-solver who anticipates issues before they become critical

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Humanitec or similar platform engineering tools
  • Background in large-scale enterprise environments or technology consulting
  • PMP, PMI-ACP, CSM, or comparable project management certification
  • Experience leading or supporting DevOps cultural transformation initiatives
  • Familiarity with Bamboo, GitLab, or similar CI/CD tools
