The Construction Contract Manager leads contract management across project lifecycles, handling negotiations with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants. The manager supports dispute resolution, claims, and contract compliance, serving as a trusted advisor to business line VPs and executives while helping identify and mitigate risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Contract Negotiation (Upstream & Downstream):
- Negotiate commercial terms with clients on alternative delivery pursuits and projects.
- Lead or support contract negotiations with subcontractors, suppliers, engineers, and consultants during project buyout.
- Project Execution Support:
- Serve as a contract subject matter expert (SME) to project teams.
- Analyze change events and develop strategic, contractually-aligned responses.
- Draft formal contract correspondence, including notices and claims, to protect company entitlements.
- Collaborate with scheduling and cost control to support time impact and quantum analyses.
- Claims & Disputes:
- Lead or support the preparation of claim narratives and change order packages.
- Assist in the defense or pursuit of claims involving owners, subcontractors, and vendors.
- Reporting & Compliance:
- Maintain and update the enterprise-wide claims tracker.
- Ensure project teams maintain accurate and current change management logs.
- Enforce compliance with contract procedures and internal processes.
- Leadership & Internal Consulting:
- Advise business line VPs and executives on commercial risk and contract matters.
- Drive resolution strategies for commercial challenges across business lines.
- Take ownership of assignments with minimal oversight and lead initiatives as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or related field.
- 5 years of experience in construction contract administration or commercial management.
- Familiarity with alternative delivery models (Design-Build, CMAR, etc.).
- Experience negotiating directly with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers preferred.
- Strong knowledge of contractual notice requirements, risk allocation, and claims development.
- Strong critical thinking and analytical abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to lead small teams and operate independently
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational discipline
- Capable of juggling multiple projects, roles, and stakeholders simultaneously
