Summary
This role focuses on ensuring the reliability and quality of advanced optical technologies and components, including pluggable transceivers & integrated optical systems, from NPI phase to production release including sustaining. Key responsibilities include developing and tracking Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) metrics, performing Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), designing and executing reliability tests, and conducting failure analysis (RCA) to drive continuous product and process improvement in collaboration with suppliers and Meta’s internal cross-functional teams. The role requires establishing in-house test beds, generating detailed reports, coordinating & managing global suppliers on manufacturing processes and mass production readiness.

Required Skills
Component Quality Engineer - Optical Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) performance metrics to assess and enhance product quality
- Conduct Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify potential failure modes/high volume manufacturing challenges and their impacts in the evaluation of advanced optical technologies
- Design and carry out reliability tests to assess the performance and durability of optical modules and components under different used conditions
- Utilize advanced techniques for failure analysis to determine root causes and enhance product reliability
- Establish and advance in-house test bed for reliability and performance to strengthen overall product design robustness
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives based on Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and identified opportunities in collaboration with optical suppliers
- Work with cross-functional teams to implement design enhancements and preventive measures informed by failure analysis, including conducting supplier audits (15% international travel required)
- Create detailed reports and dashboards that document reliability test outcomes, failure analysis insights, and recommendations for improvement
- Keep abreast of industry trends and advancements in optical technology and manufacturing challenges (including advanced packaging) to refine reliability testing and analysis methods
- Partner with Original Design Manufacturers (ODMs), component suppliers, and Quality Assurance (QA) teams to ensure comprehensive coverages
- Coordinate with internal and external teams across different time zones, overseeing the development of optical manufacturing processes to support prototyping, product development, and mass production
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Sciences and Engineering, and/or related field
- 6 years of experience in the development and validation of optical communication components such as lasers, transmitters, receivers, and transceivers
- 5 years of experience in high-speed optical and electrical test and measurement equipment, control, data acquisition and test automation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with advanced modulation formats, direct detect and coherent systems (e.g., NRZ, PAM-4, QPSK, 8-QAM, 16QAM)
- Experience with optical integration including InP PICs, Silicon-photonic PICs, PIC-IC integration, and 3D optical/silicon packaging technologies
- Programming skills in one or more of the following: Python or MATLAB
- Experience in high-speed optical and electrical test (both component & system level) and test automation
- Experience in creating or influencing product reliability test strategies and methodologies
