The Associate Controls Engineer is an entry-level professional role intended for recent graduates in engineering with 0-2 years of experience, individuals actively pursuing an accredited engineering degree who have completed relevant coursework and demonstrated applicable technical skills, or candidates who bring substantial industry experience in engineering, plant operations, or technical services, even if they have not yet completed a formal degree. This position will work under close supervision and receive detailed instruction on required tasks and expected results.

This role provides a foundation for professional growth within OPC's engineering organization and contributes to plant operations, projects, and compliance activities in a supportive capacity. All associated activities will be scheduled and controlled using a Computer Maintenance Management System.
Job Duties
Technical Support & Learning:
Education : Bachelor's degree in engineering (Electrical/Power preferred) from an ABET-accredited institution. Individuals actively pursuing an accredited engineering degree who have completed relevant coursework and demonstrated applicable technical skills may also be considered. Candidates who have not yet completed a formal degree may qualify with 2-5 years of relevant industry experience in engineering, power plant operations, or technical services, particularly those with hands-on experience with control systems (DCS/PLC), electrical systems, and overall plant operation.
Experience : 0-2 years of engineering experience, such as internships, co-ops, or coursework in engineering practices
Equivalent Experience : 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in power generation, control systems, or plant operation for non-degree candidates.
Specialized Skills
Travel : -40% (primarily plant site visits and project support)

Job Duties
Technical Support & Learning:
- Assist with troubleshooting, routing plant support, and preventive/predictive maintenance activities.
- Support basic drawing reviews and documentation updates.
- Participate in training sessions to develop knowledge of DCS/TCS/PLC systems, plant equipment, and OPC process.
- Provide assistance to senior engineers on Technical Services projects.
- Support project specification reviews and vendor coordination in a learning capacity.
- Participate in site visits, FAT/SAT observations, and commissioning support under the supervision of experienced professionals.
- Support the preparation of documentation for Compliance & Safety programs.
- Learn patching, system hardening, and basic audit requirements.
- Adhere to OPC safety standards, wear required PPE and actively identify hazards.
- Complete structured on-the-job training with guidance from senior staff.
- Contribute to the development of reports and presentations under review by senior staff.
- Stay engaged with industry trends through training, webinars, and internal learning opportunities.
- Keep up with the latest trends within the power industry and propose changes to enhance plant operations.
