DEPARTMENT: Career Center
BASIC FUNCTION: Career and professional development counseling/guidance for undergraduate, graduate, and alumni populations, with direct responsibility for 1) School of Engineering & Computing, and 2) School of Education & Human Development. Also supports all University Career Center presentations and programming as needed.
UNUSUAL WORK CONDITIONS: Must have ability to work outside an 8:30-4:30 schedule when necessary.
Knowledge And Skill Needed
EDUCATION : Bachelor’s degree preferably in engineering, psychology, business, or communications; master’s degree in counseling or related field or equivalent related experience. Knowledge of engineering discipline/industry a plus.
EXPERIENCE : 2 years’ experience in career counseling or closely related field within a student-oriented environment. Demonstrated written, verbal, and supervisory skills. Familiarity with Handshake, LinkedIn, MBTI, Strong, Gallup Strengths.

Essential Functions
Provide career counseling service to undergraduates, graduate students and alumni from the School of Engineering & Computing, and School of Education & Human Development.
- counsel/guide on various aspects of the job search process, including assessment tools, resume writing, interviewing techniques, identifying appropriate opportunities and career discernment.
- introduce techniques, actions and resources applicable to shaping the student’s
- administer and interpret results from various student assessments (e.g., Myers-Briggs, Strong, Gallup Strengths, etc.).
- Collaborate with the Director of Industry Relations in the School of Engineering & Computing on strategies for engaging with companies and understanding how best to prepare students to secure employment with them. When necessary, meeting directly with/traveling to specific firms when most beneficial for developing such strategies.
- Collaborate with the Associate Dean and/or Dean of the School of Engineering & Computing to understand the professional needs of the student population and develop career offerings to fill those needs.
- Collaborate with the Dean and/or Associate Dean of the School of Education & Human Development to understand the professional needs of the student population and develop career offerings to fill those needs.
- Develop, conduct, and lead career workshops in designated schools throughout the academic year. Programming can occur after regular business hours, to accommodate the students’ schedules.
- Co-host recruiters (when necessary).
- Assist the Director with alumni counseling when needed.
- Assist the Associate Director of Career Center/Employer Engagement with soliciting organizations to participate in the Career & Internship Fairs.
- Assist the Associate Director/Employer Engagement with gathering information for First Destination Report
- Serve as the liaison between the Career Center and designated schools
