What are the responsibilities and job description for the 7-12 Principal position at Lenox Community School District?
The Lenox Community has an anticipated opening, due to a pending transfer, for a 7-12 Principal to join our team beginning in the 2026-2027 school year.
Lenox is a rural district located in southwest Iowa. All of the district’s facilities are located on one campus. The district embraces it’s diverse student population, with 28% of the students being Hispanic. The district’s 2025-26 Certified enrollment is 424, while the BEDS enrollment is 490. This demonstrates the Lenox Community School District is the district of choice for several non-resident students.
The district is extremely stable financially. At the same time, emphasis is placed on smaller class size and low student-to-teacher ratios.
The 7-12 principal is responsible for providing leadership, supervision and administrative oversight for all of the instructional programs, staff, and students in grades 7-12. Emphasis shall be placed on providing a positive, productive, and safe learning environment that supports high-quality teaching practices and fosters strong relationships.
Applicants must have the following qualifications:
- Iowa Principal Licensure
- Evaluator Approval Certification
Key Responsibilities of the 7-12 Principal:
- Utilize data to improve instruction, monitor student progress, and support academic growth for all learners.
- Lead development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
- Model and promote positive, respectful interacts with students, staff, and families.
- Oversee student discipline with fairness, consistency, and in accordance with district policy.
- Recruit, mentor, evaluate, and support PK-6 certified staff and classified staff.
- Maintain staff morale, communication, and positive relationships.
- Ensure adherence to district policies, state laws, and safety regulations.
- Communicate proactively with families regarding incidents, concerns, celebrations, and progress.
- Oversee daily building operations and schedules.
- Coordinate transportation, lunch, custodial, and maintenance matters as needed.
- Serves as a visible and active leader with the school and community.
Although not required, this position could be combined with the position of athletic director.
Contract: Full Time, 232 Day Contract
Start Date: Approximately July 27, 2026
Salary / Benefits: Salary to be negotiated with the Board of Education, Full Family Health Insurance, Paid Vacation Days.
