General Function

The Residency Coach and Program Support Specialist (Part-time) is responsible for supporting the Teacher Preparation, Early Elementary Residency Licensure Certificate (EERLC), and Early Childhood Education programs by providing instructional coaching to students and assisting with associated program documentation and compliance responsibilities. The Residency Coach and Program Support Specialist will ensure students receive quality coaching and support to successfully complete program requirements, while maintaining accurate program records in compliance with state and institutional guidelines. This individual will work collaboratively with the program faculty, the program chairs, and the Dean of Arts and Sciences to promote student success, support program growth, and ensure that all program goals and outcomes are met.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or education subfield is required; master’s degree in education or an education subfield from a regionally accredited institution or 18 graduate semester hours in area of teaching discipline (courses designated as graduate-level courses) is preferred
  • Valid North Carolina teaching license is required
  • Knowledge of EdTPA or educational coaching experience is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of classroom teaching experience in elementary, middle, or secondary grades; coaching or mentoring experience preferred
  • Familiarity with NC DPI licensure requirements and the NC Teacher Evaluation System (NCTES) preferred

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The duties of the Residency Coach and Program Support Specialist (Part-time) include, but are not limited to:


  • Assist students in developing appropriate teaching and learning strategies during coaching sessions
  • Assist the Early Elementary Residency Licensure Certificate Chair in conducting all off-site visits for students enrolled in education-related programming (at least 2 site visits per student per semester)
  • Maintain updated Program Learning Outcomes s for North Carolina Department of Public Instruction
  • Conduct annual reporting on enrollment, retention, and success as needed for submission for the EERLC Program
  • Attend monthly meetings hosted by the NC Community College System and NCDPI to ensure compliance with LCC’s EERLC program
  • Attend annual advisory committee meeting
  • Review and evaluate student transcripts for EERLC program
  • Assist in the marketing and recruiting of education-related programming
  • Report to the program chairs of EERLC, Teacher Preparation, and Early Childhood Development regarding program-specific needs
  • Serve as academic advisor for students in education-related fields as needed
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Dean of Art and Sciences

  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge in the teaching discipline
  • Display ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of the field or discipline
  • Connect the subject matter with related fields
  • Stay current in the subject matter through professional development; involvement in professional organizations; and/or attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops
  • Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate
Evaluation of Student Learning
  • Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives
  • Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and to promote maximum learning
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
  • Create, collect, revise, and analyze student learning outcomes, in conjunction with instructors, to ensure SLOs are met
Support of College Policies and Procedures
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Exercise stewardship of college facilities, materials, and resources
  • Comply with responsibilities as cited in the Lenoir Community College Catalog, Faculty Handbook, Handbook for Distance Education, Policy Manual, and Procedures Manual
Participation in College, Division, Department, and Program Activities
  • Participate in meetings and events as required
  • Respond in a timely manner to requests for information
  • Support both part-time and full-time colleagues
  • Contribute to program, department, and division curriculum development processes
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills in communication with students, colleagues, staff, and administrators as an individual or as a team member
  • Maintain familiarity with college goals, mission, and long-range plans
  • Participate in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College and its constituents
  • Perform professional responsibilities in accordance with pertinent goals, mission, and plans of the College
Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
