What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse Aide Level I and II (Part-time) position at Lenoir Community College?

General Function

The Nurse Aide Level I and Level II Instructor is responsible for the classroom and lab instruction of Nurse Aide I and II courses in compliance with standards set forth by the College as well as the North Carolina Division of Facility Services (DFS) and the North Carolina Board of Nursing.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in nursing from a regionally accredited institution is required
  • A current unencumbered RN license to practice in North Carolina is required
  • At least 2 years of experience or its equivalent (4000 hours) as a registered nurse is required
  • Must meet at least one of the following requirements:
    • completed a course in teaching adults
    • experience in teaching adults
    • experience in supervising nursing assistants
  • At least one year of experience or its equivalent (2000 hours) in providing care for the elderly or chronically ill of any age is preferred
  • Community college teaching experience is preferred

Working Conditions
  • Classroom, lab, or shop environment
  • Frequent standing and walking to monitor student progress
  • Some light lifting of materials pertaining to lab projects
  • Day and/or evening hours may be required

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The duties of the Nurse Aide Level I and II Instructor include, but are not limited to:


  • Teach state-approved Nurse Aide I and II curriculum to students
  • Teach in an online format as needed
  • Maintain accurate documentation and records required for students and instructors for the course and program
  • Prepare student progress reports and submit accurate attendance records
  • Maintain a safe classroom environment
  • Interact with clinical sites to ensure that policies and procedures are being followed
  • Assist with the facilitation of lab and clinical sites
  • Maintain quarterly inventory of NAI supplies and communicating with the Director of Health-Related Programs regarding supplies needed
  • Remain current with information and skills in teaching field
  • Assist in recruiting students
  • Work cooperatively with all directors and staff
  • Participate in applicable skills training and applicable staff training
  • Follow and support college activities, policies, and procedures
  • Serve on college committees as assigned
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Mastery of Subject Matter
  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline
  • Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline
  • Connect their subject matter with related fields
  • Stay current in their subject matter through professional development, through involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences, or workshops
  • Use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate
Teaching Performance
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students' needs
  • Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, telecourse, interactive technology, when appropriate
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher-order thinking skills through appropriate assignments
  • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives
  • Assist in the preparation of students for the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Examination (NNAAP) and progression to the Nurse Aide II Training Program
  • Communicate effectively in both the educational and health care settings
  • Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and student learning
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter and modify where appropriate instructional methods and strategies to achieve student learning
  • Function effectively as a member of the didactic, laboratory, and clinical faculty
  • Implement and assess identified program and institutional student learning outcomes
  • Perform assessments of students' cognitive, affective, and psychomotor skills and incorporate core competencies into program content
  • Evaluate student performance consistently and fairly
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit required record management documentation timely
Evaluation of Student Learning
  • Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives
  • Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
