General Function
The NCFAST instructor (Part-time) will provide a NCFAST instructional program committed to quality teaching and successful student achievement in order for students to become gainfully employed at any county Department of Social Services in NC. Employees in this classification will be responsible for providing classroom instruction; administering tests; evaluating student performance and maintaining accurate documentation as required by state standards.
Qualifications
- Associate degree from an institutionally accredited college or university is required; bachelor's degree preferred
- Three years of work experience relevant to NCFAST along with references acknowledging proficiency in the program
- Ability to teach the skills to a diverse student population with varying skill sets in a professional manner; and conduct both personal and classroom assistance to add to student success
- Classroom, lab, or shop environment
- Frequent standing and walking to monitor student progress
- Some light lifting of materials pertaining to lab projects
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
This position will train individuals interested in a career in Human Services on the use of the NCFAST system as well as career development skills that are needed for success in this career. Instructors are expected to: prepare and submit instructional records, reports, grades and other paperwork in a timely manner, meeting all deadlines with accuracy and detail; teach the NCFAST curriculum developed by the NCCCS; and submit the class schedule to the coordinator/director and the NCCCS.
Faculty members are expected to demonstrate and maintain competence in each of the following areas throughout their employment at the College:
Mastery of Subject Matter
- Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline
- Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline
- Connect their subject matter with related fields
- Stay current in their subject matter through professional development, through involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conference or workshops
- Use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate
- Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning
- Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students
- Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students needs
- Employ available instructional technology, i.e. the Internet, telecourse, interactive technology, when appropriate
- Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments
- Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives
- Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives
- Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives
- Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines
- Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
