General Statement of Duties:
Responsible for getting the proper resources to the emergency or non-emergency situation. Operates an inter-operable radio system, receives calls for service, dispatches law enforcement officers, fire/EMS and other resources; operates the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN) and National Crim Information Center System, inputs data in Windows based computer systems, and answers administrative and emergency phone calls, along with Text to 911; utilizes computer applications; performs related work as required.
Supervision Received: Work is performed under the general supervision of the Dispatch Shift Leader.
Supervision Exercised: None.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: An employee in this class may be called upon to do any or all of the following: These examples do not include all of the tasks which an employee may be expected to perform.
- Maintains radio communications in the Next Generation 911 (NG911) communications center.
- Receives 911 and other calls for police, fire, and EMS; provides assistance and dispatches appropriate personnel. Gives pre-arrival instructions.
- Communicate by radio and other mediums to Law Enforcement, Fire, and EMS.
- Operate a computer (LEIN and/or NCIC) for checks on wanted persons, vehicles, guns, and other information
- Enter and remove warrants, wanted vehicles, guns, and articles into a national database.
- Operate miscellaneous computer applications and programs to assist in essential job functions.
- Keep detailed records on communications and computer activities.
- Answer inquires.
- Perform related work as required.
Desirable Education, Experience and/or Qualifications: An employee in this class, upon appointment should have the equivalent of the following training, qualifications and/or experience.
- High school graduation, or GED equivalent.
- Must possess a valid Michigan operator’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Considerable knowledge of the roads and principal locations in the county.
- Considerable knowledge of Dispatch Center equipment and operations.
- Knowledge of Windows-based computers
- Knowledge of local laws and ordinances
- Knowledge of the CAD system and other applications.
- Knowledge of LEIN/NCIC rules and policies
- Knowledge of all policies and procedures for Lenawee County.
- Strong technical skills.
- Strong typing skills.
- Strong multi-tasking abilities.
- Strong Computer skills and the ability to be trained on a specific software program.
- Ability to understand medical and police terminology.
- Ability to adapt to technology trends within the 911 industry.
- Ability to act quickly in emergencies.
- Ability to problem solve and make decisions in a timely manner.
- Ability to work effectively and professionally with the public and with other employees.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.

- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, overnights, weekends, holidays and overtime.
Working Conditions and Physical Abilities:
- Work shifts include nights, weekends and holidays.
- Work is primarily indoors and requires sitting for extended periods
- Ability to stand or sit in once spot for long periods of time, moving arms, hands, back and entire body.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced office environment, use of a computer, vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone.
- Must be able to hear and speak over the phone and in one-on-one communication needs.
- Must be able to see and notice the needs of others.
