Description
The primary function of the Basketball League Scorekeepers position is to assist in the set-up/take-down of courts, keep score during games, and enforce the rules of the Rec Hoops League. Scorekeepers should create a positive, fun, and safe game atmosphere while encouraging sportsmanship with the participants. All games are held on Saturdays and some Sundays, the ability to work multiple games in a row is required.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the safety of players and ensure rules are followed.
- Arrive on time for all games when assigned to make certain games run on a schedule.
- Document any required game records and report to Site Coordinator or Supervisor.
- Inspect equipment and report any damage or need for replacement to the Supervisor.
- Clock in upon arrival to the job site and clock out before vacating job site.
- Adjust team scores in accordance with official’s decision.
- Keep track of possession arrow, game time by starting and stopping the clock when necessary.
- Record fouls and player eligibility.
- Set up and teardown of all equipment needed for program and event space by facility and recreation staff. Including lifting and arranging chairs and tables, court set up and moving supplies.
- Ensure that all participants stay safe by educating them on safe practices and District policies, procedures and guidelines are followed.
- Respond immediately and effectively to any emergency. Report emergency immediately to supervisor, and file report. Communicate any problems or concerns to the supervisor.
- Report any equipment or areas that may have deficiencies or need repair to the supervisor.
- Scorekeepers are required to participate in all required training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- Applicants must be 16 years of age or older in compliance with Illinois Child Labor Laws and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- Basic knowledge and understanding of the game of basketball.
- Requires strong people and customer service skills and able to communicate effectively with staff and the public.
- Ability to work independently.
- First Aid/CPR/AED certification within 90 days of hire.
Work Environment:
Work will take place indoors during the winter season. The employee must possess the visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations, and the physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
