About the Role
As a Prosthetic & Orthotic Fabrication Technician, you play a key hands‑on role in bringing custom‑designed prosthetic and orthotic devices to life. You’ll work closely with clinicians to fabricate, modify, finish, and repair a wide range of patient‑specific devices using both traditional and modern fabrication methods. This position is essential to ensuring that every device produced meets our standards of quality, safety, fit, and craftsmanship. Work Environment
Primary Location: Amherst, Ohio (main fabrication lab); Toledo, Ohio (satellite lab) Regular coordination between Amherst and Toledo; periodic onsite support for other offices as needed.
Service Footprint: Supports five Ohio offices (Amherst, North Olmsted, Sandusky, Toledo, Niles, Akron) and growing.
- Schedule: Full-time, weekday shop hours with occasional overtime, Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:30 PM (Wednesday until 5–6 PM), no weekends
FSLA Status: Non-Exempt Hourly Full-time
Reports to: Lead Technician/Fabrication Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Fabricate, modify, finish, and repair custom prostheses and orthoses, including laminations, vacuum forming, trimming, alignment checks, and finishing.
- Read and execute clinician work orders, casts, measurements, and digital scans, complete bench alignments and functional checks before fittings.
- Maintain shop standards, follow safety and PPE procedures, keep the work area clean, help with routine equipment care.
- Track materials, pull correct components and supplies, help with basic inventory tasks.
- Document builds, repairs, and material lots in company systems to support billing and traceability.
- Support quick turnarounds without sacrificing quality, communicate job status to clinicians and the lead tech.
- Assist with occasional patient-side adjustments under clinician direction, as needed.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by management
Qualifications:
- 3 years of O&P lab experience preferred, or strong related fabrication background with eagerness to learn.
- Solid hands-on skills with layups and laminations, vacuum forming, plastic and metal finishing, foam shaping, glues, resins, and shop tools.
- Ability to follow detailed instructions, manage multiple jobs, and hit deadlines with consistent quality.
- Team-first, dependable, steady under pressure, willing to take feedback and improve.
Bonus: Experience with 3D printing, CAD or CAM, and digital scanning tools.
Nice to have: ABC Technician certification, basic OSHA knowledge.
Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for extended periods, and work safely with resins and solvents using PPE.
