Summary

The Student Navigator supports learners throughout an Electrician and Fiber Optics Pathways Program. Ensuring strong enrollment, retention, credential attainment, and transition to employment or continued education. The Navigator provides case management, career guidance, wraparound support, and navigation services tailored to adult learners, incumbent workers, and dislocated workers. This role is essential to improving completion rates, reducing barriers to participation, and increasing job placement outcomes across all cohorts. The navigator also assists with the development of pre-apprenticeships and apprenticeships for these students. Reports to the Executive Director of Workforce with strong working relationships with instructors, employer partners, and Student Services.

This position is reviewed annually for continuation and is strictly contingent upon the receipt of necessary grant funding sources and contractual agreements.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Serves as the primary student-support contact for all program participants from enrollment through completion.
  • Assists prospective students with application steps, placement, scheduling, and orientation.
  • Provides individualized case management and referrals to internal and external support services.
  • Thirty students need to complete the fiber optics training.
  • Tracks attendance, engagement, credential attainment, and student progress across each 8-week training module.
  • Supports employer recruitment events, job fairs, and placement activities in partnership with employer partners and other manufacturers.
  • Works with employers to provide pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship opportunities for students.
  • Develops a Registered Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship.
  • Facilitates communication between students, instructors, employers, and the Project Coordinator.
  • Assists students with resume development, interview preparation, and job search strategies tailored to plastics and advanced manufacturing roles.
  • Encourages and guides students who wish to articulate their training into the degree pathways.
  • Maintains accurate records for grant reporting, evaluation, and compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field

OR

  • High school diploma/GED and two years of related experience in accounting, bookkeeping, financial administration, grant management, or data tracking or related area.

Certifications

  • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Clearance Fingerprinting)

Work Experience

  • Experience working with adult learners or individuals facing employment barriers.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and case-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple students’ progress, documentation, and support needs.

  • Must possess a high level of the following work skills and behaviors: teamwork, cooperation, initiative, customer service, high level of accuracy, analytical and problem solving skills, excellent organizational, written and oral skills, ability to work in an office with frequent interruptions and commitment to continuous professional growth in skills and knowledge.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in workforce training, community college support roles, or career counseling.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing career pathways or technical education.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee may regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
