JOB SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing work involving the skills of two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep machines, mechanical equipment, or building structure in repair. Duties may involve pipe fitting, boiler making, insulation, welding, machining, carpentry, repair electrical or mechanical equipment, installing, aligning and balancing new equipment, and repairing buildings, floors, or stairs.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Inspects, operates, or tests machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions.

· Dismantles machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, or power tools.

· Performs routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions.

· Diagnoses mechanical problems and determines corrective actions, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.

· Repairs machines, equipment, or structures, using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices.

· Maintains and repairs specialized equipment and machinery located in warehouses and food production areas.

· Assembles, installs, and repairs wiring, electrical and electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.

· Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, or other parts of machinery.

· Adjusts functional parts of devices or control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.

· The incumbent has the authority to take immediate corrective actions when dealing with Food Safety and Food Quality issues and is required to report these issues to the Department Manager or Food Safety Manager for further action, if required.

QUALIFYING SKILLS REQUIREMENT:

· High School diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary certificate or vocational training in one or more trades with 3-4 years of apprenticeship.

· 2-4 years of previous experience performing maintenance functions in a manufacturing environment. Maintenance experience in a food manufacturing environment preferred.

· Must be able to lift 40 lbs. unassisted.

· Must be able to be forklift certified.

· Knowledge and experience in areas such as FDA, GMP, SQF, and HACCP a plus.

· Must have knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

· Must have knowledge of maintenance tools such as drain or pipe cleaning equipment such as augers or cables, as well as pipe or tube cutters, power drills, power saws, and pullers.

· Must have knowledge of building and construction and repair.

· Must have excellent customer service skills including needs assessment, meeting quality standards of service and evaluating customer satisfaction.

· Must be able to analyze information and evaluate results to choose the best solution and solve problems.

· Must have the skills for arm-hand steadiness, control precision to repeatedly adjust controls, finger dexterity for precise coordinated movements, and manual dexterity to quickly move hands, grasp or assemble objects.

· Must have the ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong or recognize there is a problem.

· Must have the ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken word.

· Must have excellent communications skills in expressing information in person and in writing.

· Must have general knowledge of office equipment and computers such as Excel, Outlook, Internet browsing and practical application of mathematics to solve problems.

· Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.

Pay: $26.00 - $35.00 per hour
