Legends Recovery Center of Defiance is seeking a compassionate and dependable Medical Assistant to support medical and nursing staff Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:30pm in providing care to individuals receiving treatment for substance abuse disorders. This position plays a vital role in supporting patient health, safety, and recovery within a trauma-informed treatment environment.
Responsibilities
- Obtain and document vital signs and client medical information.
- Assist providers during medical assessments, and follow-up appointments within the facility.
- Perform urine drug screens, breathalyzer tests, and other specimen collections per protocol.
- Process laboratory specimens and ensure proper documentation and chain of custody.
- Administer medications as permitted by state of law and facility policy.
- Support Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) services under provider supervision.
- Monitor and document withdrawal symptoms using approved tools (e.g., COWS, CIWA) as directed.
- Observe patients for side effects or adverse reactions and promptly report concerns to nursing or medical staff.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- CMA/RMA required
- CPR/BLS certification required or obtainable upon hire.
- Prior medical experience required; behavioral health or addiction treatment experience preferred.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work with individuals in recovery in a respectful, professional manner.
Preferred Experience
- Substance use disorder or behavioral health setting.
- Familiarity with Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) preferred.
- Urine drug screening or lab collection.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of substance use disorders and withdrawal management.
- Understanding of trauma-informed care principles.
- Strong documentation and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries with clients in recovery.
- Effective communication skills with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to remain calm in crisis situations.
Work Environment
- May include exposure to individuals experiencing withdrawal symptoms or emotional distress.
- Fast-paced medical and behavioral health setting.
- May require evenings, weekends, or holiday coverage based on facility needs.
Pay: $20.00 - $21.00 per hour
