Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LSNV) is a large, high-volume legal aid organization in Virginia, with 45 attorneys spanning seven offices. We help thousands of clients each year in civil legal matters, while cultivating relationships with community service organizations, local law firms, pro bono attorneys, and local bar associations, and other stakeholders to serve the region’s low-income and neediest populations.

Job Summary: Legal Services of Northern Virginia (LNSV) is seeking a full-time Director of Development to join our dedicated team.

The Director of Development will develop and execute a coordinated fundraising strategy to cultivate new opportunities and resources. The Director will also work to increase and diversify existing fundraising programs, including a multi-year campaign. Additionally, the Director will support LSNV’s Board of Directors, campaign committee members, and staff in identifying, cultivating, developing, and tracking relationships with existing and potential financial supporters and will help LSNV develop and convey persuasive messaging about the organization, including its mission and accomplishments, to increase fundraising success.

This is a hybrid position, preferably based at our Fairfax office.

Essential Functions:

  • Develops and executes a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including, but not limited to, identification, attraction, and retention of major donors for a multi-year campaign.
  • Designs and implements fundraising programs and events.
  • Researches potential donors and contacts.
  • Coordinates meetings with donors and potential donors of LSNV, including necessary follow-up.
  • Coordinates and enlists volunteers for “friend-raising” events.
  • Works closely with LSNV’s Executive Director, staff, Board of Directors, and campaign committee members to support fundraising efforts.
  • Creates and disseminates electronic and print fundraising and promotional materials (e.g., brochures, newsletters, social media posts, annual reports, etc.).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, required.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant fundraising experience; experience creating, implementing or growing a multi-year campaign aimed at major donors, preferred; experience engaging donors from the legal field or Northern Virginia, preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Relevant social media and technology skills.
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.

Travel: Periodic local travel may be required.

Compensation: The salary ranges from $80,000 to $98,000 based on experience and qualifications.
