Insurance Defense Legal Assistant / Paralegal

Legal Search Solutions has partnered with a well-established regional insurance defense law firm to identify an experienced Legal Assistant / Paralegal for its Fort Lauderdale office.

This is an excellent opportunity for a strong litigation professional to work directly with the firm's Managing Partner on a diverse caseload that includes bodily injury, medical malpractice, and other liability defense matters. The position requires someone who is highly organized, experienced with Florida litigation, and comfortable taking ownership of both substantive paralegal responsibilities and high-level legal assistant support.

Position Overview

The Legal Assistant / Paralegal will provide comprehensive litigation support throughout the life of a case, with responsibilities spanning case management, court filings, discovery, deposition preparation, calendaring, and attorney support.

The practice is primarily in Florida state court, although candidates should also be familiar with federal court filing procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the Managing Partner in the handling of bodily injury, medical malpractice, and other insurance defense matters.
• Assist with cases from inception through resolution.
• Draft, revise, proofread, and format pleadings, motions, notices, correspondence, and other litigation documents.
• Handle electronic filing and service of documents in Florida state courts.
• Assist with federal court filings and maintain familiarity with federal filing procedures.
• Draft and assist with discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, and related materials.
• Coordinate and prepare for depositions, hearings, mediations, examinations, and other proceedings.
• Review and organize medical records, discovery materials, and other case documentation.
• Maintain attorney calendars and monitor court deadlines, discovery deadlines, and other critical dates.
• Communicate professionally with clients, insurance carriers, experts, opposing counsel, court personnel, and other parties.
• Assist with preparation of exhibits, hearing materials, deposition materials, and trial notebooks.
• Maintain organized electronic case files and ensure matters remain current and properly documented.
• Provide additional substantive and administrative litigation support to the Managing Partner as needed.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Several years of experience as a litigation legal assistant and/or paralegal, preferably within an insurance defense practice.
• Experience with bodily injury, medical malpractice, general liability, or similar civil defense matters strongly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Florida state court procedures, e-filing requirements, and litigation deadlines.
• Familiarity with federal court filing procedures.
• Experience with discovery, deposition preparation, calendaring, and substantive litigation support.
• Ability to independently manage competing priorities and anticipate attorney needs.
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Professional judgment and discretion appropriate for supporting a senior law firm partner.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, document management systems, and litigation technology.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $75,000 – $80,000, commensurate with experience.
• Comprehensive benefits package.
• Full-time position based in Fort Lauderdale, FL.
