The Role

We are hiring a Senior Mobile & TV Platform Engineer to help transform Legacybox from a web-first product into a native, multi-screen family memory experience.

This role sits at the intersection of product, engineering, platform architecture, video/media systems, and consumer experience.

You will lead the technical evolution of our customer experience across native iOS and companion TV platforms, helping families engage with their memories in the places where they naturally relive them: on their phones, on the couch, and together as a household.

That means helping us build and scale experiences across:

• native iPhone and iPad apps
• Apple TV (tvOS)
• smart TV platforms (Roku, Android TV / Google TV, Fire TV, Samsung, or similar)
• media playback and long-form video experiences
• photo browsing and memory viewing experiences
• account, family, and multi-user experiences
• cross-platform architecture and shared logic
• performance-sensitive playback, storage, and sync systems

This is not a traditional app maintenance role.

We are looking for someone who understands that our product is not just software. It is how families experience irreplaceable memories together.

What You’ll Do

Lead Native App Expansion

• Help translate our web application into a best-in-class native iOS experience
• Build and improve iPhone and iPad experiences that feel fast, intuitive, and deeply polished
• Define where native experiences should differ from web, rather than simply replicating screens
• Improve performance, offline resilience, responsiveness, and platform-native behavior

Build TV & Living Room Experiences

• Architect and launch companion TV applications across priority platforms
• Create simple, elegant playback experiences for home videos, photos, and shared family memories
• Design for lean-back, remote-first interaction patterns
• Help make Legacybox a product families experience together, not just individually

Shape Cross-Platform Architecture

• Partner with engineering leadership on long-term architecture decisions
• Identify what should be shared across platforms vs. purpose-built natively
• Improve reliability around APIs, authentication, media handling, caching, and sync
• Help establish scalable engineering patterns for mobile and TV products

Build Media-Heavy Consumer Experiences

• Improve long-form video playback, chaptering, scrubbing, and discovery
• Build rich photo and memory browsing experiences
• Optimize performance for large media libraries and asset-heavy experiences
• Ensure speed, reliability, and polish across lower-bandwidth or constrained environments

Raise Technical Standards

• Partner closely with Product, Design, Backend, and Platform teams
• Contribute to engineering culture, code quality, testing, and release rigor
• Help us move fast without creating fragile systems
• Raise the bar for craftsmanship across all customer-facing software

What We’re Looking For

• 5 years experience in iOS, mobile, connected-device, or consumer platform engineering
• Strong experience building native iOS applications using Swift and modern Apple frameworks
• Experience shipping production-grade apps to the App Store
• Experience with video, media playback, streaming, or large asset-heavy interfaces
• Strong systems thinking around architecture, performance, and scalability
• Comfort working across frontend, API integration, and product decisions
• Ability to independently drive initiatives from concept through launch
• High craftsmanship and strong attention to UX detail
• Experience working in small, fast-moving product teams

Nice to Have

• Experience with tvOS, Roku, Android TV, Fire TV, or Smart TV ecosystems
• Experience designing shared cross-platform architectures
• Familiarity with React-based or web-first products transitioning to native
• Experience with media libraries, storage systems, sync, or offline-first behavior
• Experience with subscriptions, consumer SaaS, or DTC products
• Familiarity with video chaptering, playback UX, or rich media browsing

Interview Process

2. Technical Deep Dive (60 min)

Walk through past systems, apps, architecture decisions, and tradeoffs.

3. Practical Challenge

A domain-relevant challenge focused on product thinking, platform architecture, or media experience design.

4. Team Fit (45 min)

Meet the team. Discuss collaboration style, ownership, and how you work cross-functionally.

5. Final Discussion (30 min)

Talk about comp, logistics, and next steps. If we’re both excited, we’ll make an offer.

Total time commitment: ~4–5 hours spread over 2–3 weeks
