What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service Director position at Legacy Tow Group?
About Legacy Tow Group
Legacy Tow Group is a heavy-duty towing and recovery company operating in South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida. We’re expanding into diesel repair and mobile service (in-shop roadside) and need a Service Director to build and lead this new division.
The Role
You’ll own the service business from the ground up:
- Stand up and scale diesel shops and mobile tech operations in Moncks Corner, Savannah, and Jacksonville
- Build the team, processes, and pay plans for technicians and service staff
- Tie together dispatch, outside service, and internal fleet maintenance
- Drive technician efficiency, bay utilization, and fleet uptime
This is a hands-on, build-and-lead role for someone who knows what a great heavy-duty service operation looks like—and wants to create it.
What You’ll Do
- Design and implement the service operating model (in-shop mobile) for all locations
- Hire, coach, and hold accountable Service Managers, Advisors, Techs (A/B/C), and Lot Techs
- Implement technician incentive plans
- Balance lean parts inventory with tech productivity; partner with vendors on parts and tooling
- Integrate and optimize the tech stack (dispatch shop management mobile workflows chatbot)
- Own service KPIs & P&L: tech efficiency, bay utilization, tow-to-repair conversion, uptime, margins
- Collaborate with Executive Team, GMs, and Dispatch to ensure service enhances, not distracts from, towing
What You Bring
- 7 years in heavy-duty diesel service, dealership fixed ops, or fleet maintenance leadership
- 3 years leading a team of technicians and service staff in a multi-bay shop
- Proven success improving throughput, efficiency, and profitability in service operations
- Strong understanding of technician incentive pay plans, labor guides, and heavy-duty repair categories
- Experience with shop management systems (Fullbay, ShopPulse, DMS, Fleetio, etc.) and process design
- Data-driven mindset: comfortable owning KPIs, budgets, and reporting
- Excellent people leadership skills; you can recruit, develop, and retain top techs
- Willingness to travel regularly between SC, GA, and FL locations
Nice to Have
- Background in towing/recovery or mobile roadside service
- Experience launching or restructuring multi-location service operations
