Barn & Property Crew – Full-Time

Legacy Sport Horses
Michigan, IN Full Time
POSTED ON 10/25/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/22/2027

Legacy Sport Horses | Michigan City, Indiana

Legacy Sport Horses is a private, high-end equestrian facility in Michigan City specializing in Friesian Sport Horses. We’re looking for a dependable, hands-on person to join our small team in a full-time Barn & Property Crew position.

This is a varied role that combines daily horse care with property, grounds, and equipment maintenance. Some days will be focused on the horses and barn; others may include mowing, repairing a fence, maintaining equipment, working on the arena, or tackling seasonal property projects.

We’re looking for someone who notices what needs to be done, takes pride in doing it well, and can be counted on to show up and contribute.

What You'll Do

Horse & Barn Care

  • Feeding, watering, turnout, and bringing horses in
  • Grooming and general daily horse care
  • Cleaning stalls and maintaining clean, organized barn areas
  • Assisting with basic medical care as directed
  • Assisting with farrier and veterinarian visits
  • Following established care routines and detailed checklists
  • Helping with other day-to-day needs around the barn

Property & Equipment Maintenance

  • Lawn mowing, weed trimming, and general grounds care
  • Routine preventative maintenance on tractors, ATVs, mowers, arena equipment, and other farm equipment
  • Minor equipment troubleshooting and repairs
  • Fence and gate repairs
  • Maintaining and adjusting barn doors, hardware, and fixtures
  • Arena maintenance
  • Seasonal property projects and upkeep
  • General repairs and the everyday projects that come with maintaining a large horse facility

You do not need to be a heavy-equipment mechanic. Major mechanical repairs are handled by a repair shop. We need someone who can handle routine preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and the day-to-day upkeep that keeps equipment and the property in excellent condition.

You'll Be a Great Fit If You:

  • Are dependable, punctual, and self-motivated
  • Enjoy working around horses and take their care seriously
  • Are mechanically inclined and comfortable using basic tools
  • Can identify and solve everyday maintenance problems
  • Are comfortable operating tractors, ATVs, mowers, and similar equipment—or are willing and able to learn
  • Are organized, detail-oriented, and consistent
  • Can follow established procedures and checklists
  • Work well independently without needing constant direction
  • Notice when something needs attention and take initiative
  • Take pride in keeping a property clean, organized, safe, and well maintained
  • Are at least 18 years old

Experience working around horses is strongly preferred. Experience with young or training horses is a plus.

What Matters Most to Us

We are a small team, which means reliability matters. Horses require consistent care every day, regardless of weather, weekends, or holidays. We need someone who understands that responsibility and can be counted on when scheduled.

We have established systems and detailed checklists for horse care and facility operations. We welcome ideas for improving how we do things, but we expect our procedures to be followed consistently unless a change has been approved.

This is a full-time position and will include regularly scheduled weekend work.

If you're someone who enjoys being active, likes variety, loves working around horses, and gets satisfaction from looking around at the end of the day and seeing what you accomplished, we'd love to hear from you.

Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Application Question(s):

  • This full-time position includes regularly scheduled weekend work and requires dependable attendance because the horses need care every day. Are you able to reliably work a schedule that includes weekends?
  • Please briefly describe your experience caring for or working around horses. If you do not have horse experience, tell us about any experience you have working around large animals.
  • This position includes mowing, weed trimming, fence and gate repairs, minor equipment maintenance, arena upkeep, and other hands-on property projects. What experience do you have with this type of work and with equipment such as tractors, ATVs, or mowers?
