RN Medical-Surgical / Step Down – Days & Nights
Legacy Personnel, Inc. is currently seeking experienced Registered Nurses (RNs) for a 13-week contract assignment in Hilo, Hawaii. This is a great opportunity for an experienced Med-Surg or Step-Down RN looking for a new contract assignment with competitive pay.
Position Details
- Position: RN – Medical / Step Down
- Location: Hilo, HI 96720
- Contract: 13 weeks
- Pay Rate: $57/hour
- Schedule: 36 hours/week
- Shift: 12-hour shifts
- Day Shift: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
- Night Shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
- EMR: EPIC and Meditech
Job Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to medical and surgical patients
- Serve as a Flex RN, floating between various medical and surgical units as needed
- Perform patient assessments and monitor changes in condition
- Administer medications and treatments according to orders
- Assist with wound care and management of complex medical conditions
- Care for patients requiring equipment such as wound vacs and chest tubes
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation
- Collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary healthcare team
Units You May Float To
Depending on facility needs, the RN may float to:
- Medical Unit: 77 beds
- Laulima Unit (Surgical Acute): 18 beds
- Cardiovascular Unit: 15 beds — on rare occasions
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios
- Medical Unit: 1:6 days/evenings; 1:8 nights
- Laulima Unit: 1:6
- Cardiovascular Unit: 1:4
Ratios may vary due to unexpected staff leaves or changing patient-care needs.
Equipment & Technology
- EPIC EMR
- Meditech EMR
- Pyxis medication dispensing system
- Wound vacs
- Chest tubes
Requirements
- 2 years of RN experience
- Recent acute-care experience
- Med-Surg and/or Step-Down experience preferred
- Ability and willingness to float between assigned acute-care units
Required Certifications
- BLS – Required
- ACLS – Preferred
Additional preferred certifications:
- PALS
- Procedural Sedation
- TNCC
- ENPC
Orientation & Training
Unit-specific orientation will be provided for each unit the RN is assigned to or floats to. Orientation is designed to familiarize you with the facility, unit workflows, equipment, and clinical expectations.
