Title: Charge Entry/Medical Biller
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8am-5pm with 1 hour for lunch. Overtime may be required on occasion.
Classification: Full-time hourly with non-exempt status.
Job Summary: Performs all insurance/billing clerical duties and is responsible for entering data electronically to process charges, some payments, denials and adjustments or by paper depending on the Client obligations. Resolves routine charge inquiries and problems. All duties performed under the supervision of Team Lead and Charge Entry Supervisor/Manager, or Certified Coder.
Supervision Received: Reports to a Charge Entry Supervisor/Manager or Team Lead/Coder
Location: Moore, Oklahoma (in office only)
Compensation: Starting at $17 per hour worked (depending upon duties and experience)
Required Essential Functions:
- Knowledge of medical terminology, CPT, ICD 10, HCPCS and ability to build upon that knowledge
- Enters data to process charges and input correct codes/data
- Processes out charges and prepares daily checks and locks
- Posts and files out hospital/physician charges along with working Medicaid denials daily
- Addresses errors from Receipt/Payment posting and Insurance Audit questions
- Answers questions and resolves routine patient billing inquiries and problems
- Prepares and submits clean electronic claims to insurance companies for assigned departments and specialties
- Apply coding as needed on claims and verify charges match notes on account in multiple areas of medical practice (i.e. Family Practice, Surgery, Behavioral Health, Cardio, Pediatrics, Obstetrics, Anesthesia, etc.)
- Continuously understand Medical Billing-Coding, documentation, claim filing and payment posting
- Enters financial data in reports as needed and requested by Manager/Supervisor
- Adheres to all company policies, procedures and guidelines
- Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations
- Available to all co-workers for aid in performance of job duties
- Work effectively to resolve issues and be proactive
- Attend and participate in all company meetings as requested
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. 1 year experience is required in entering Medical Billing charges. ICD-10 knowledge and experience is required.
Physical Requirements: Sitting for up to 2 hours at a time, able to lift up to 20 pounds. This position requires repetitive hand movement.
Required Skills/Experience:
- Knowledge of medical billing practices with physician billing
- ICD-10 Coding knowledge and how it applies
- Working knowledge of computer programs/software used in Medical Billing Practices (Mysis, Meditech, ECW, Citrix, Medisoft, Advanced MD, EPIC, Allscripts) and Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of Business Office procedures
- Knowledge of basic Medical Coding and third-party operating procedures and practices
- Ability to operate a computer and basic office equipment
- Ability to operate a multi-line telephone system
- Skill in answering a phone in a pleasant and client friendly manner
- Ability to read, understand and follow oral and written instructions
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, coworkers and the patients; provide quality customer service
- Must be well organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task
- Must be dependable and punctual – reliability is key to job performance requirements
- Must have good time management skills to prioritize daily duties w/ongoing projects
- Must be able to work independently when needed and on a team
- Maintain a professional and polished image including attitude and language used
