Job Title: Dredge / Production Operator (Full Time / Part Time)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: Production Season Off-Production Season
Monday – Friday 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM Monday – Friday 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Saturday 7:30 AM – 1:00 PM Saturday As Needed
The Dredge Operator position will:
Be responsible for all aspects of our sand and gravel operation as all positions are cross-trained. Your duties may vary from day to day, not limited to dredge operations, heavy equipment operations, maintenance and a variety of other duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Must be able to or willing to learn all site functions
2. Assist in plant operation, repairs and clean up
3. Perform pre-shift safety inspections on equipment, each and every time, no exceptions!
4. Adhere to MSHA standards including new safety compliances and continuing education
5. Perform duties with minimum supervision
6. Lift, carry and hold materials, tools and supplies
7. Operate excavation equipment, hoists, or other moving or lifting equipment
8. Control pumps or pumping equipment
9. Measure work site dimensions
10. Operations control and monitoring – controlling winches to position dredge, raising and lowering ladder, watching gauges, dials, or display screens to make sure a machine is working properly
11. Comprehension of the computer program that starts and stops all operations of the dredge; Includes hydraulic pump, motor start, multiple water pumps, primary pump, and system monitoring
12. Start and stop engines to operate equipment
13. Proper procedure of shut down for varied weather types
14. Assist in continuous site improvements through use of performance standards
15. Serves as First Responder
16. Complete all other duties assigned by Superior(s)
Minimum Education and Experience
· At least a minimum of 1-year experience dredge operation is preferred but not required
· Must be 18 years of age or older
· Must be willing to maintain current driver license that meets state requirements and must be insurable
· Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Must be able to read and comprehend equipment operating manuals
· Must be able to operate heavy and complex equipment requiring skill [safety and efficiently]under a variety of working conditions and exercise independent judgement
· Must have knowledge of trenching and shoring standards
· Must be able to read, write, and do basic mathematical calculations in order to keep time and material records, and read blue prints or other project documents
· Must be able to complete pre-shift inspection reports
· Must be able to communicate effectively and respectfully both in person and on radio or CB with co-workers and customers
· Must be able to wear all required safety equipment
· Must be able to perform duties in a safe manner
· Must be able to read and interpret gauges
· Must be able to work independently and interdependently and possess a team-player mindset
· Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
Physical Requirements
· Must have good hand/eye coordination and be able to operate hand/foot controls
· Must have good precision control – quickly changing the controls of a machine, car, truck or boat
· Must have fast reaction time – quickly moving your hand, finger or foot based on a sound, light, picture or other command
· Possess good vision to perceive depth at close range and distances up to 150 feet
· Must be able to climb on and off equipment to operate and service
· Must be able to bend, stoop, climb and reach around mobile equipment
· Capable of lifting 75 lbs with or without assistance
· Must be able to sit and operate equipment for long periods up to 10 hours per day
· Must work outside in all weather conditions consistent with extreme ambient temperatures: heat, cold, wetness, dryness, dust, and noisy conditions
· Must be able to work at various heights
Working Conditions
· Larger equipment is typically air conditioned. Outside assignments will require periods of work in all weather conditions-heat, cold, wet or dry. May have exposure to dust, sand, gravel, diesel, exhaust, noise, etc. Standard and specialized PPE will be provided however, it is your responsibility to provide cold weather gear.
· Occupational hazards such as those generally associated with ongoing exposure to moving machinery/equipment leading to cuts, bruises, burns, strains, back injuries and potentially more serious injuries
· A drug test and pre-employment physical is required. Subject to random alcohol and drug testing while employed
