Position Summary: Student Nursing Aide
The Student Nursing Aide provides direct resident care under the delegation, direction, and supervision of a licensed nurse. This role allows nursing students to build clinical skills while supporting residents in a long-term care and rehabilitation setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtain vital signs, pulse oximetry, and blood glucose readings
- Assist residents with meals and activities of daily living
- Perform simple dressing changes as delegated
- Assist with ostomy care
- Support restorative care, including ambulation and range-of-motion exercises
- Perform peripheral venipuncture for laboratory testing
- Apply oxygen via nasal cannula
- Initiate and discontinue approved nebulizer treatments
- Administer routine screening tests and immunizations as delegated
- Accurately document resident care in the electronic medical record
- Administer approved routine medications within Board of Nursing guidelines
- Participate in quality assurance and resident care initiatives
Qualifications:
- Currently enrolled in an approved nursing program
- Successfully completed:
- Nursing Fundamentals
- Pharmacology
- Medication Administration
- Able to provide documentation verifying completed coursework
- Demonstrates competency within the Alabama Board of Nursing Student Nursing Aide guidelines
- At least 18 years of age
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Compassionate, dependable, and passionate about caring for older adults
