What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grain Specialist position at Legacy Farmers Cooperative?
Legacy Farmers Cooperative is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Grain Specialist to support daily grain grading and handling operations. This position is responsible for accurately grading incoming grain, entering scale information, assisting with grain unloading and railcar loading, and providing excellent service to our customers.
The ideal candidate can remain organized in a fast-paced environment, particularly during harvest, and is comfortable working independently.
Essential Responsibilities
- Probe and accurately grade incoming grain
- Inspect grain for odor, damage, infestation, DON levels, and other quality factors
- Maintain the required grain grading license
- Enter grain grades, customer information, and scale tickets into the appropriate systems
- Record detailed commodity information and communicate results to Grain Leads
- Answer customer questions and address concerns professionally
- Operate the grain-unloading PLC system and assist with dumping trucks, trailers, and wagons
- Assist with railcar loading and enter railcar information
- Maintain clean and safe work areas, grounds, and facilities
- Follow all company safety procedures and good housekeeping practices
- Assist at other Legacy Farmers Cooperative locations on a short-term basis when needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Grain grading license preferred
- Two to three years of grain grading experience preferred
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and stay organized during busy harvest periods
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Computer experience, including Excel or Google Sheets, customer databases, scale-ticket entry, or rail-loading systems, preferred
Physical Requirements
- Comfortable working in, around, and on top of grain bins and railcars
- Ability to bend, squat, twist, climb, and reach above shoulder level
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to assist with unloading various types of trucks, trailers, and wagons
- Ability to work safely around grain-handling equipment, dust, noise, and varying weather conditions
Additional Information
- The standard schedule is Monday through Friday; however, overtime, extended hours, and weekends may be required based on harvest and business needs
- Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a post-offer drug screen
Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 – 50.0 per week
