Position Overview
The Director of Business Development will lead all aspects of business development, sales operations, account management, and estimating. This individual will serve as a player-coach responsible for developing and guiding a small, experienced sales and estimating team while also personally managing key relationships, generating accurate scopes/quotes, and driving new business.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 3-4 full-time sales/estimating reps and customer-facing operations personnel.
- Serve as a hands-on coach—working in the field, on quotes, and with customers.
Business Development & Territory Growth
- Drive new business across VA, PA, WV, NC, and future markets.
- Continue to build on current and future relationships with general contractors and site development firms.
- Grow the geographic and market footprint on the East Coast.
Sales Execution & Account Management
- Manage key customer accounts, monitor job pipelines, customer needs, and competitor activity.
- Support margin expansion through disciplined pricing.
Estimating/Quoting
- Support and oversee accurate job quotations.
- Ensure proper scoping, risk assessment, and cost structure.
Collaboration & Operations Interface
- Partner with operations and blasting teams to align commercial and field execution.
- Provide forecasting and input into budgeting and planning.
- Support transfer of institutional knowledge.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- 5–15 years of sales experience in site development, construction, or subcontracting.
- Understanding of construction estimating and quoting.
- Experience selling to GCs or site developers.
- Player-coach mindset.
- Willingness to travel 50% regionally (VA, PA, WV, NC, GA)
Preferred
- Background in drilling & blasting, aggregates, civil construction, or technical subcontracting.
- Experience leading a small sales team.
- Comfort in high-hazard, safety-intensive environments.
