Position Summary

We are partnering with a growing, privately held heavy civil contractor to identify a Director of Project Management to lead and support project execution across the organization.

This is a high-impact, hands-on leadership role responsible for overseeing a team of Project Managers and a Project Scheduler, while working closely with field leadership and ownership to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget, and in alignment with client expectations.


The Director of Project Management will serve as the central point of coordination across all active projects, helping bring consistency, accountability, and structure to how work is planned and executed. This role is ideal for a senior project leader who has grown up in civil construction, understands how jobs run in the field, and can step in to support, coach, and elevate the team.

*The ideal candidate will be located in Southern Colorado or be willing to relocate to the area.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of Project Managers and a Project Scheduler
  • Oversee execution of all active projects to ensure schedule, budget, and quality targets are met
  • Provide hands-on support to Project Managers in planning, problem-solving, and decision-making
  • Drive consistency in project management practices, reporting, and communication
  • Work closely with field teams to ensure alignment between project plans and field execution
  • Review and manage project schedules, resource allocation, and sequencing with the scheduler
  • Monitor job cost performance, forecasting, and financial tracking across projects
  • Identify risks early and proactively address issues impacting project performance
  • Interface with clients, subcontractors, and government stakeholders as needed
  • Support contract administration, change orders, and compliance on public-sector projects
  • Partner with ownership to improve processes and strengthen overall project execution


Required Qualifications

  • 10–15 years of experience in heavy civil construction or infrastructure
  • 3-5 years as a Director of Project Management, managing Senior Project Manager, or a Project Executive
  • Proven experience leading multiple projects simultaneously between $20M - $100M
  • Strong understanding of project scheduling, job costing, and field execution
  • Experience working on DOT, federal, or municipal projects
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and develop project teams
  • Comfortable stepping into field-related issues and working directly with crews and superintendents
  • Strong problem-solving ability in fast-paced, real-world construction environments


Skills and Competencies

  • Project lifecycle leadership from pre-construction through close-out
  • Strong financial and commercial acumen
  • Proficiency with current software tools such as Procore, Vista/Spectrum, HCSS Suite, P6, MS Office, MS Project, and CAD
  • Effective negotiation and vendor management skills
  • Risk assessment, mitigation, and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment


Compensation & Benefits

Base salary range expected to be between $200,000 – $250,0000 plus bonus potential. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, company vehicle, and other executive benefits.
