Legacy Early College is a K4-12 public charter school that originated through the vision of William Brown in 2010 with an unwavering focus on “To and Through College” at every grade level. Legacy’s model combines academics, nutrition, physical fitness and mental health. POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the direct supervision of the Principal, the Middle School Art Teacher will be responsible for daily instruction and management of scholars in a whole-class setting. This role includes, but is not limited to, instruction of art history, visual art techniques and production of scholar work that may be showcased to stakeholders throughout the school year.
Roles/ Responsibilities
- Plan an art curriculum that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of scholars
- Create lessons that align with South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards for Visual Arts Proficiency
- Assess scholar proficiency according to the South Carolina College and Career Ready Standards for Visual Arts Proficiency
- Gather, prepare, and maintain organization of multiple materials and mediums
- Encourage scholars to persevere through mistakes
- Teach clean-up routines and studio habits
- Build the confidence of growing artists through positive reinforcement
- Lead constructive critiques of artwork
- Showcase student artwork in public displays
- Introduce scholars to diverse art forms and perspectives
- Push scholars to think both critically and imaginatively
- Evaluate student performance and progress
- Meet with parents to discuss their child's progress
- Organize and manage art supplies and classroom
- Actively participate in professional development related to teaching and learning
- Be prepared to differentiate learning for different levels and types of learners, including scholars with Individualized Learning Plans and Special Needs
- Be empathetic to the needs and dynamic of scholars and families from diverse backgrounds including communities of color and lower-income communities
- Actively participate in school-wide events, community, and culture
- Agree to occasional school-related events outside regular school hours
Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience preferred
- South Carolina teaching certificate, preferred
- Either formal training or relevant experience strongly preferred
- Spanish speaking ability, preferred
Work Schedule
Will operate on the Legacy Early College academic calendar, on the 195-day (10 month school year) schedule. A typical week during normal school hours is Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Position will have periods of extended work week hours, which is required to support both the ongoing development of the region and the delivery of high-quality education for all students.
