Legacy Charter School is seeking a passionate and student-centered Diverse Learner Teacher for the 2026–2027 school year. We are looking for an educator who is committed to providing scholars with IEPs rigorous academic experiences that prepare them for success with grade-level and above-grade-level content through consistent, joyful, social-emotional, and cognitive learning experiences.
Legacy Charter School is a high-performing public charter school serving approximately 468 scholars in kindergarten through 8th grade in Chicago’s North Lawndale neighborhood. About The Role
The Diverse Learner Teacher provides scholars with IEPs high-quality instruction in multiple settings, including within the classroom, in small groups, and through 1:1 support. Teachers create well-planned lessons that are culturally relevant, data-informed, and rooted in engaging pedagogy.
This role is ideal for an educator who is skilled in differentiated instruction, IEP goal development, progress monitoring, data-informed teaching, and relationship-building with scholars, families, and colleagues.

What You’ll Do
As a Diverse Learner Teacher, you will:
- Provide rigorous, engaging, and standards-based instruction to scholars with IEPs in multiple learning settings
- Plan meaningful ways to provide instruction within the classroom, in small groups, and 1:1 to support strong scholar growth
- Provide differentiated strategies to groups and individuals based on their needs
- Actively participate in grade-level team responsibilities, including meetings, problem-solving, data-sharing, and discussions that support scholars
- Utilize student assessment results to create IEP goals and skill acquisition goals
- Collaboratively monitor IEP, behavior, and academic data to ensure scholar progress
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation of student progress, including IEP goals, IEP reports, lesson plans, grades, and other required records
- Provide high-quality instruction that is standards-based, culturally relevant, rigorous, and informed by assessment
- Develop positive and productive relationships within the classroom community and with staff members and Legacy families
- Create a safe and productive learning environment through strong classroom routines and procedures
- Implement restorative practices and support scholars’ social-emotional learning
- Demonstrate respect for diverse people, ideas, and perspectives
- Excel in a fast-paced and multi-faceted charter school environment with grace, collaboration, and a solutions-oriented approach
- Actively supervise paraprofessional(s) by providing schedules, checklists, and regular check-ins

- Current Type 10 certification or LBS1 required
- Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or equivalent required
