Adoption Counselor

Legacy Adoption Services is seeking an experienced, compassionate professional to support expectant parents, birth parents, and adoptive families through private domestic adoption. This role combines direct client care, case management, home assessment work, hospital support, documentation, and community outreach.

The position is well suited for someone who builds trust quickly, communicates clearly, maintains sound professional boundaries, and can remain organized and steady in emotionally complex or time sensitive situations.

Legacy Adoption Services is a licensed, Christian faith based child placing agency serving expectant parents, birth families, and adoptive families across Texas. We provide ethical, client-centered adoption counseling and practical support with an emphasis on informed decision making, respect, integrity, and long term well being.

What You’ll Do

• Provide compassionate, non-coercive options counseling to expectant parents and, when adoption is chosen, help clients develop an individualized adoption plan.
• Assess client needs, develop plans of care, coordinate services and community resources, and provide ongoing case management from pregnancy through delivery and post-placement.
• Offer emotional support, education, and practical guidance to expectant parents, birth parents, and prospective adoptive families throughout the adoption process.
• Provide in-person support throughout the pregnancy and adoption process, including at important appointments, during hospital stays and delivery, and at placement.
• Maintain timely, accurate, and professional case notes, records, reports, and client communications in accordance with agency and licensing requirements.
• Accompany or transport clients to medical appointments and community resources when needed.
• Conduct interviews and home assessments for prospective adoptive families, complete post placement visits, and prepare required court reports.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with physicians, hospitals, pregnancy centers, schools, caseworkers, discharge planners, and other community partners.
• Deliver educational presentations and training about ethical, modern adoption practices and available services.
• Participate in a rotating, flexible schedule that may include evenings, weekends, and occasional overnight on-call support for hospital deliveries.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in social work, counseling, psychology, sociology, child development, family studies, or another human services field.
• At least two years of related professional experience, such as child welfare or CPS casework, residential care, crisis services, family services, or adoption.
• Demonstrated ability to develop professional relationships with people from diverse backgrounds and in complex circumstances.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including confidence with presentations and community training.
• Strong case management, documentation, organization, and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize competing needs, respond appropriately to urgent situations, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
• Willingness to meet clients in homes, hospitals, shelters, pregnancy centers, and other community settings.
• Reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and current automobile insurance.
• Ability to pass required criminal background and drug screenings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in private domestic adoption or with a licensed child placing agency.
• Master’s degree in a human services field.
• Experience conducting home assessments or home studies, writing formal reports, or providing crisis-oriented case management.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.

Work Environment and Schedule

This is a full-time hybrid position based in North Richland Hills. Work takes place remotely, in the Legacy office, and at client and community locations throughout Texas. Because adoption related needs do not always occur during standard business hours, schedule flexibility and participation in on-call coverage are essential.
