Floral Clerk (Daytime Shift)-Smithfield

At Lees MarketPlace, a Floral Clerk assists in the daily operations of the floral department by creating floral arrangements, maintaining product freshness, and delivering excellent guest service. This role supports both everyday floral sales and special event designs while ensuring the department remains clean, organized, and visually appealing.

Primary Position Duties

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Greet and assist guests in selecting floral arrangements, plants, and gift items. Take custom orders and ensure accurate fulfillment based on customer preferences.
• Design and create custom floral arrangements and bouquets for retail sale, special orders, and events.
• Assist with the processing of event orders (weddings, funerals, dances) under the direction of the Floral Manager.
• Order fresh flowers, supplies, and materials in a timely manner. Manage floral inventory to ensure freshness and minimize waste while maintaining a clean, organized, and visually appealing floral department.
• Provide knowledgeable and friendly assistance to customers. Address customer needs, concerns, and special requests professionally and promptly.
  
  

Guest Service:

• Greet and assist guests and team members in a friendly and courteous manner.
• Provide knowledgeable answers to guest and team member inquiries.
• Promote and exemplify a high level of morale within department and store, utilizing friendly but professional methods of honest and open communication with guests and team members.
• Assist guests with custom floral orders, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and creative presentation.
• Provide knowledgeable recommendations for floral arrangements and plant care based on customer needs and event type.
• Build positive relationships with guests and the community.
• Displays excellent problem-solving skills and prides themselves on finding the best resolution that exemplifies the “Lee’s Way- doing what’s best for our guests, our team, and our company”.
• Be familiar with, and assist customers with use of, Lee’s Marketplace website.
  
  

Product Handling:

• Design and assemble floral arrangements, bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, and other specialty items.
• Process and care for incoming floral shipments, including cutting, hydrating, and displaying flowers.
• Maintain inventory by rotating stock, monitoring product freshness, and discarding expired items in the proper way.
• Assist with setup and teardown of floral displays for in-store merchandising and special promotions.
  
  

Cleanliness and Safety:

• Maintain a clean, organized, and visually appealing floral workspace and display area.
• Ensure proper storage, hydration, and handling of all flowers and materials.
• Adhere to proper lifting, cutting, and handling procedures to ensure personal and team safety.
• Report any safety hazards or equipment issues to the Floral Manager.
• Reporting injuries or safety concerns for team members as well as guest accidents in a timely manner to .
• Adhere to all safety and sanitation regulations.
• Contributes towards the cleaning responsibilities in the department.
  
  

Team Collaboration:

• Work cooperatively with team members to achieve store goals.
• Engage in and support the Lee’s MarketPlace Mission statement and Core Values
• Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
• Assist other departments as needed.
• Work in a fast-paced, sometimes crowded, environment with tact and patience.
• Work with team to ensure products are sold well before their expiration date.
• Collaborate with store management and other departments for cross-promotions, seasonal displays, and store events.
• Has knowledge of and complies with all company policies, procedures, programs, and directives. Refers to Team Member Handbook continually to ensure policies and procedures are followed. Promotes a harassment-free environment, and immediately reports any potential harmful situation to management.

Position Requirements

Age Requirement: 16yrs Delivery Driver Age Requirement: 21yrs

Availability: Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Willingness to work varied hours according to the needs of the store.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, twist, sit, and bend for extended periods.
• Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Manual dexterity for handling small objects and operating equipment.
• Repetitive use of hands and arms to push, pull, carry, lift, reach, grip, and balance.
• Occasionally stoop, crouch, kneel, or crawl.
• Prolonged periods standing and walking.
• Ability to distinguish colors, shapes, and details for design work and quality control.
• Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the store.
• Lifting may include floor to shoulder and overhead lifting repeatedly.
• Occasional use and climbing of step stools or ladders are required.

Education Or Skills

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Individuals currently pursuing a high school diploma or equivalent are welcome to apply.
• Floral design experience preferred, but not required — on-the-job training available.
• Knowledge of flower/plant care and floral arrangement techniques.
• Wedding, funeral, and event design experience preferred.

• Ability to creating a variety of floral arrangements, including custom, event-based, and seasonal designs.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks, orders, and deadlines effectively, especially during peak seasons or event preparation.
• Skilled in coordinating floral needs for weddings, funerals, dances, and other events.
• Strong visual design skills with an eye for color, balance, and trends.
• Comfortable using systems for ordering, scheduling, and customer transactions.
• Ability to implement solutions quickly and effectively.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to read and follow instructions.
