What are the responsibilities and job description for the Human Resources Manager position at Leer Inc.?
The ideal candidate for our Human Resources Manager role will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Human Resources operations for our New Lisbon, WI facilities. This includes recruitment, benefits administration, employee relations, compliance, leaves of absence, payroll, compensation, and special projects. This role plays a critical part in fostering a positive workplace culture, ensuring legal compliance, and supporting business objectives through effective HR leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Note: The following duties are representative but not exhaustive.
- Support full-cycle recruitment for exempt, non-exempt, and production roles; may oversee job postings, advertising, screening, and selection.
- Administer health and welfare benefits; communicate annual updates and resolve employee inquiries in coordination with third-party administrators.
- Manage workers' compensation program; maintain communication with carriers and oversee incident reporting and investigations.
- Support safety programs, OSHA compliance, and recommend additional safety training as needed.
- Investigate workplace incidents and employee complaints, ensuring timely and thorough resolution.
- Handle employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, harassment claims, wage disputes, and attendance management.
- Create learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees.
- Oversee employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
- Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommends best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
- Represent the company at unemployment hearings when required.
- Administer FMLA and other leaves of absence in compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Oversee payroll functions; address payroll concerns and ensure timely, accurate processing.
- Conduct and participate in compensation surveys; develop and update job descriptions.
- Coordinate the performance management process with management teams.
- Supervise administrative and facilities support staff.
- Prepare and submit monthly HR reporting.
- Lead or support HR-related special projects as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field.
- 7–10 years of progressive HR experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience managing recruitment, benefits, employee relations, and compliance.
- Strong understanding of federal and state employment laws and regulations.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel); HRIS experience required, Workday preferred.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills.
- Proven ability to coach, mentor, and support leadership at all levels.
- Familiarity with OSHA and safety-related protocols.
Preferred Qualifications
- HR Certification (PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP) strongly preferred.
- Prior leadership and supervisory experience.
- Experience participating in or leading compensation reviews and surveys.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to sit, walk, and use hands to operate a computer or handle documents.
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- Occasional exposure to manufacturing environments with moving parts or airborne particles.
- Must be able to focus visually and adjust to changes in work environment noise levels.
Travel Requirements
This position requires occasional travel (10–20%) to other plant locations and corporate meetings.
