A growing real estate investment and management organization is seeking a Senior Property Accountant to join its accounting team. This role will be responsible for the full-cycle accounting and financial reporting of a portfolio of commercial real estate assets, including both owned and third-party managed properties.
Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of commercial real estate properties
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules
- Perform account reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close activities
- Analyze financial results and investigate variances
- Prepare comprehensive monthly reporting packages for ownership and management
- Monitor cash activity, cash flow forecasts, and banking transactions
- Record journal entries and ensure accuracy of financial data
- Coordinate with property management teams regarding budgeting, operating expenses, tenant activity, and financial reporting needs
- Assist with annual budgets, reforecasts, and year-end audit support
- Review CAM reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed asset activity as needed
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and reporting requirements
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and reporting efficiency
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within commercial real estate or property accounting
- Experience managing accounting for multiple properties and legal entities
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting, financial reporting, and general ledger management
- Advanced Excel skills
- Experience with Yardi, MRI, RealPage, or similar property management/accounting software preferred
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines
- Commercial office, industrial, retail, mixed-use, or multifamily property accounting experience
