Purpose Statement
The job of Building Clerk was established for the purpose/s of providing clerical support to assigned school site personnel, supporting office staff when needed, and providing information and/or direction as may be requested.
Essential Functions
SKILLS are required to perform single tasks using existing skills. Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; customer service; and operating equipment.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand complex, multi-step written and oral instructions. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: concepts of grammar and punctuation; common office machines; office methods and practices; and safety practices.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data, and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes, and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals; work with similar types of data, and utilize job-related equipment. Some problem solving may be required to identify issues and select action plans. Problem-solving with data may require independent interpretation, and problem-solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: being attentive to detail; adapting to changing work priorities; and dealing with frequent interruptions.

Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job requires 20% sitting, 20% walking, and 60% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard-free environment.

Essential Functions
- Answers telephone calls for the purpose of screening calls, transferring calls, responding to inquiries, and/or taking messages.
- Assists and trains students, teachers, and other staff in making copies or using the copy machines for the purpose of ensuring equipment is used properly and copies are completed effectively.
- Assists with processing of documents, forms, mailings, and materials (e.g. attendance, enrollments, etc.) for the purpose of disseminating information to appropriate parties.
- Attends department and/or in-service meetings during the school day for the purpose of gathering information required to perform functions.
- Contacts copy machine service center when repairs are needed for the purpose of ensuring equipment is available for use.
- Maintains and repairs small problems on copy machines for the purpose of ensuring the availability of the office equipment.
- Maintains the inventory of supplies and materials (e.g. paper, laminating film, transparencies, card stock, paper clips, toner, staples, maintenance kits, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring items’ availability.
- Operates a variety of equipment (e.g. copy machines, laminating machines, paper cutter, binding machine, Ellison machine, folding machine, poster machine, etc.) for the purpose of providing necessary services.
- Provides a variety of clerical services for teachers and staff (e.g. copies worksheets, handouts, and other requested items; laminates papers, classroom decorations; data entry, etc.) for the purpose of relieving staff to perform other necessary responsibilities.
- Provides a variety of support services for the purpose of supporting the effective and efficient functioning of the school site.
- Relieves staff as requested (e.g. secretaries, health-room clerk, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the effective and efficient functioning of the work unit.
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
