Purpose Statement

The job of Aquatic Assistant was established for the purpose/s of assisting the Director in maintaining a comprehensive Aquatic enrichment program for staff, students, and community members. Responsibilities include but are not limited to creating a fun, safe, learning environment that delivers an effective program model.

This job reports to the Aquatic Center Director

Essential Functions

  • Adheres to District personnel guidelines (e.g. maintains self-control and composure, uses positive approach with adults and children. Refrain from personal cellular telephone use and working on personal items while on District time, ) for the purpose of maintaining a positive, safe, learning environment.
  • Assists in day-to-day facility operation.
  • Assists with routine in-service trainings for Lifeguards, Swimming Instructors, and Front desk staff.
  • Provides a clean, safe educational learning environment that promotes health & safety for students and the general-public.
  • Administers, first aid and assistance for providing appropriate care.
  • Monitors special activities, assist writing lesson plans, monitors programs and outside user groups while ensuring a safe, clean, and effective learning environment.
  • Assists in preparing a variety of reports and documents (e.g., lesson plans, newsletters, evaluations, letters, observations, e) for the purpose of communicating information at the appropriate level and meeting District guidelines.
  • Provides supervision for supporting the effective and efficient function of staff and programs.
  • Maintains a variety of documents, files, and records for the purpose of documenting activities, providing information, and complying with program and District guidelines.
  • Operates the registration/booking system, answer customer inquiries and complaints, reporting them as appropriate to the Aquatic Center Director.
  • Demonstrates responsibility to manage staff scheduling, meeting and continues training.
  • Monitors students and patrons in all settings for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Promotes good habits, self-discipline, and self-help activities in an effort to improve the quality of programming while encouraging positive participant development.
  • Assists the Aquatic Director in implementing new activities to expand the Aquatic Center program model.
  • Represents the Director in his/her absence ensuring the efficient and effective functions and over all operation continues to meet the needs of the work unit.
  • Monitors and supervises employees, volunteers, patrons and others for the purpose of creating a safe, clean, learning environment for all.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

SKILLS are required to perform multiple tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percent’s, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include stages of child development; age appropriate activities; positive reinforcement techniques; and safety practices; codes/laws/rules/regulations/ policies; and curriculum and instructional methods.

ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data may require independent interpretation; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Responsibility

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; and monitoring budget expenditures. Utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the organization’s services.

Working Environment

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 40% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.

Certificates & Licenses CPR/First Aid Certificate

Clearances Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance; TB Clearance; Child Abuse and Neglect Check

Continuing Educ. / Training

American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or LGI, and trainings as assigned.

CPR, First Aid, AED certification.

Ability to work and relate well with children (ages 6 months- 18 years old)

Ability to walk and stand for long periods.
