What are the responsibilities and job description for the Software Engineer-Advertising Systems position at Lee Enterprises?
Lee Enterprises is seeking a technically minded IT Advertising Operations Analyst to support and enhance the suite of applications critical to our advertising operations. This includes CRM systems like HubSpot, order management systems, reporting platforms, and other integrated tools that help power sales, fulfillment, and campaign execution.
This role serves as a bridge between business operations and technical teams, contributing to system configuration, support, and light development coordination. While experience with advertising systems is helpful, it’s not required—candidates with strong technical aptitude and a background in CRM or operational systems are encouraged to apply.
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities:
- Support the configuration, maintenance, and day-to-day readiness of advertising-related applications such as CRM platforms (e.g., HubSpot), Order Management Systems (OMS), and related tools.
- Coordinate and validate user acceptance testing (UAT) for new feature development, especially where workflows span multiple systems (e.g., CRM to OMS).
- Assist in the setup and validation of forms, products, workflow rules, and automation triggers tied to CRM or OMS platforms.
- Troubleshoot operational and data issues across integrated platforms, including investigating front-end behavior, API payloads, and workflow execution.
- Review and interpret light code artifacts such as browser errors, JSON payloads, or API response messages to support issue resolution.
- Document test plans, configuration notes, system logic, and SOPs to support ongoing platform management.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders and vendor partners to implement fixes, enhancements, or new integrations.
- Ensure consistent system behavior and support accurate, traceable business processes through well-maintained application logic and documentation.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- 2–4 years of experience in systems support, application operations, or business analysis.
- Strong technical aptitude, including being comfortable with application configuration, system logic, and data workflows.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities and changes effectively.
- Effective communicator, able to work well with both technical and business teams.
- Some experience troubleshooting code-related issues (e.g., inspecting API payloads, reviewing error messages, reading simple scripts) is helpful—even without a formal development background.
- Familiarity with structured data formats (JSON, XML, CSV) and system integration concepts (API, SFTP).
- Ability to document workflows, define test cases, and work across both technical and non-technical teams.
- At least 2 years of hands-on experience supporting business applications or operational systems.
- Experience with Naviga Ad or Naviga Adbase is highly desirable, but not required.
Education and Experience:
- 2–4 years of experience in a system support, application operations, or business analyst capacity.
- Experience with advertising, CRM or marketing platforms—ideally in digital or print media environments a plus, but not required.
- Familiarity with Naviga Ad or Naviga Adbase Advertising platforms is considered a strong advantage, though not essential.
