The Lee County Highway Department is seeking a detail-oriented, dependable, and motivated professional to fill a full-time Engineering & Business Technician position. This hybrid position combines technical engineering support with administrative and financial responsibilities and plays an important role in the daily operations of the County Highway Department.
Position Overview
The Engineering & Business Technician assists with roadway and bridge projects while also supporting office administration and financial record keeping. Duties include CAD drafting, field inspections, materials testing, survey support, accounts payable/receivable processing, and maintaining department records.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Engineering Support
- Prepare preliminary roadway and drainage plans using CAD software
- Assist with field surveys and operate survey equipment
- Perform construction inspection for road, bridge, and culvert projects
- Conduct materials sampling and testing in accordance with IDOT specifications
Administrative & Financial Support
- Process accounts payable/receivable and maintain Motor Fuel Tax financial ledgers
- Maintain organized project, financial, and personnel records
- Provide general office support including phones, mail, and public interaction
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two-year degree in computer-aided drafting, construction technology, or related field
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and CAD software
- Valid Illinois driver's license
Preferred:
- Experience with roadway construction or engineering offices
- Familiarity with IDOT specifications and documentation procedures
Work Schedule
Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM. Occasional overtime may be required during construction season.
Salary
$22.00 - $32.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
