BUS MONITOR

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Must comply with all employment criteria legally established by the Lee County Board of Education.
  2. A valid Commercial Driver’s License with “P” and “S” endorsements is preferred.
  3. A current Alabama School Bus Driver “Wellness Screening” or DOT Physical is preferred.
  4. Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
  5. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable

Background Check Required:  (HB 402 ACT 99-361 Alabama Legislature)  Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

 

FLSA: Non-exempt

 

REPORTS TO:  Transportation Director and Superintendent

 

JOB GOAL:  To assist in providing safe transportation so that students may enjoy the fullest possible advantage from the district’s curriculum and extracurricular program.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Applicable to All Employees:

  • Attend on a regular and predictable basis.
  • Complete assigned tasks in a safe manner and in a constant state of alertness.
  • Uphold Board policies, including the anti-harassment program.
  • Work in a cooperative manner with students, teachers, staff, supervisors, and the public.
  • Work effectively and efficiently under time and productivity standards.

 ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  1. Assist the bus driver in maintaining good student conduct on the bus.
  2. Inspect transportation passes to prevent unauthorized travel.
  3. Assist young or disabled students in getting on and off the bus.
  4. Attend IEP meetings for students who ride the bus.
  5. Assure that students get on and off the bus in an orderly fashion.
  6. Provide written records of violations of the student code to local administration.
  7. Attend training sessions for proper securement procedures.
  8. Collect and turn over to the school secretary those personal items left on bus by students.
  9. Sign in twice a day (after AM route & before PM route) at designated reporting school site.
  10. Other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director and/or Superintendent.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; occasional lifting of 75 pounds, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some squatting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and color vision. This job involves sitting for long periods.

 

MENTAL FUNCTIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to compare, analyze, communicate, coordinate, instruct, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills and compile. Occasionally required to copy and negotiate.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to tasks that involve infrequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids or tissues. Risk involved with travel on main highway, side streets and rural roads during business travel, including evenings and weekends. Tasks that involve handling implements or utensils, use of public or shared bathroom facilities and personal contacts. Possible exposure to communicable diseases. Able to work a flexible schedule. Must be able to travel, enter, and exit a vehicle without assistance and withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Random drug tests may be performed.

 

EMPLOYMENT:  This is a nine-month position (183 days).  Board approved salary schedule.

 

EVALUATION:  Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Support Services Personnel.

Salary : $13,439 - $14,372
