Pre-K Paraprofessional - Instructional

Position Summary

Under the direct supervision of a certified teacher and the Principal or designee, assists with instructional and developmental support for Pre-K students to promote early learning, safety, and readiness skills in accordance with district expectations and applicable law.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in providing instructional and developmental support aligned to Pre-K curriculum and early learning standards.
  • Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce teacher-directed instruction, routines, and early learning skills.
  • Support classroom organization, preparation of instructional materials, and implementation of daily activities.
  • Assist with classroom supervision and behavior support to maintain a safe, nurturing, and structured learning environment.
  • Support students during non-instructional activities, including arrival/dismissal, meals, restroom routines, playground, and transitions.
  • Assist with supervision during field trips and school activities as assigned.
  • Support documentation of attendance, observations, and student performance as directed by the teacher.
  • Assist with communication with families as directed by certified staff and administration.
  • Provide support to students with disabilities or developmental needs in accordance with IEPs, Section 504 plans, and teacher direction.
  • Assist students with activities of daily living, including toileting, feeding, and mobility, as required to support participation in learning.
  • Follow all district policies, safety procedures, health protocols, and confidentiality requirements, including FERPA.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or designee consistent with Pre-K program requirements.

Equipment: Use of standard classroom and office equipment, including computers, copiers, and instructional materials appropriate for early childhood settings.

Travel Requirements: May be required to travel between schools or district locations as assigned.

  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions provided by certified staff and administrators.
  • Ability to work effectively with young children in individual and small-group settings.
  • Ability to maintain a supportive, patient, and developmentally appropriate approach with students.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of student and personnel information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with teachers, staff, and supervisors.
  • Ability to use basic instructional technology and classroom equipment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of an early childhood instructional team.

Physical And Mental Demands, Work Hazards

  • Work in classroom and school environments with young children; frequent standing, walking, bending, lifting, and assisting students; supervision of students indoors and outdoors; ability to lift and assist children and classroom materials as required.

Qualifications Profile

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

Qualifications

  • Para “Rank I” - High School Diploma or state-approved High School Equivalency (HSE), required. Para “Rank” II - 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of college credit above the remedial level from a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution with grade of “C” or higher.
  • Must maintain a Georgia Paraprofessional License issued by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (GaPSC).
  • Prior experience working with young children is preferred.
  • Exceptional integrity, commitment to confidentiality, excellent character, and strong professional reputation.
  • Ability to abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Must be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to be present at the physical worksite.
  • Must perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Must perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 60 pounds.
  • Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
