Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Elder Law Attorney role based in Fort Myers, FL. The attorney will provide legal services to older adults, including addressing elder abuse cases, managing guardianship matters, and solving Medicaid and long-term care planning issues. The attorney will advocate for clients in court or administrative proceedings, work collaboratively with colleagues, and communicate directly with clients to assess and address their unique legal needs with the ability to navigate sensitive situations with care.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise clients on matters such as powers of attorney and advance healthcare directives.
- Represent clients in guardianship, conservatorship, and elder abuse cases.
- Assist with Medicaid/Medicare planning and long-term care arrangements.
- Provide counsel on healthcare rights.
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents related to elder care.
- Stay current on federal and state laws affecting older adults.
- May include other areas of law as Elder Law docket grows. These include
- Family Law
- Debt Collection Defense
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Active Florida State Bar membership in good standing
- 3-5 years of experience in elder law- particularly guardianship or related practice experience
- Proficiency in elder law, guardianship, and elder abuse matters
- Experience in client advocacy, negotiation, and courtroom representation
- Ability to work compassionately and effectively with older adults and marginalized communities
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with Florida elder law statutes and regulations preferred
- Multilingual abilities a plus
Work Environment
This position requires in-office daily, in-person consultations and court appearances.
Compensation: $80,000 to $90,000 annually depending on experience.
