Lee County Clerk's Office is a State of Alabama employer in Opelika, AL. The Lee County Clerk’s Office is hiring for entry level Clerk I positions that will convert to Court Specialist positions when available. These positions require a high school diploma (or equivalent) and completion of an extensive background check. Associates or college/post high school degrees and certifications are helpful but not required. **Pay**

The Starting pay range is approximately $30,000/year with possible top pay range of $78,500 after 25 years of service.

**Overview**

The Court Specialist provides administrative, clerical, and operational support to ensure the effective functioning of court proceedings and daily judicial operations. This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, confidentiality, and the ability to maintain professionalism while interacting with judges, attorneys, law enforcement, and the public.

**Duties**

  • Prepare, process, and maintain court records, filings, and legal documents in accordance with established laws and guidelines.
  • Assist with scheduling court hearings, trials, and other proceedings; communicate dates and requirements to involved parties.
  • Provide frontline customer service by answering inquiries, directing individuals to appropriate resources, and assisting with courtroom procedures.
  • Review, verify, and enter case information into court management systems accurately and promptly.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing correspondence, including subpoenas, warrants, notices, and legal forms.
  • Coordinate with judges, clerks, attorneys, and other stakeholders to ensure efficient case flow.
  • Collect and process fees, fines, and payments; maintain accurate financial records and receipts.
  • Prepare daily dockets, reports, and documentation needed for courtroom activity.
  • Ensure confidentiality and strict compliance with legal standards, court policies, and ethical requirements.
  • Provide general administrative support, including filing, scanning, data entry, and records management.

**Requirements**

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional coursework or certification in legal studies or criminal justice preferred.
  • Prior experience in a court, legal office, or administrative setting strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of court procedures, legal terminology, and case processing practices.
  • Proficiency with court software systems and standard office applications.
  • Strong communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work accurately under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
  • High degree of professionalism, integrity, and discretion.
