What are the responsibilities and job description for the Business Development Manager position at LedgerLync?
Business Development Manager
Location: Ann Arbor, MI area Type: Full-Time preferred, Part-Time considered
About LedgerLync
LedgerLync is a growing accounting and HR outsourcing firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. We help founders and small business owners by taking accounting, payroll, and HR completely off their plate — so they can focus on building their business. We've been serving entrepreneurs across the Midwest since 2010, working with companies at every stage from launch to exit.
We're entrepreneurs ourselves. We understand what founders face — and we know how to fix it.
The Role
LedgerLync is seeking an entrepreneurial Business Development Manager to drive client acquisition and revenue growth across Michigan. This is a hunter and relationship-builder role — ideal for someone who can open doors, build trust, and convert warm conversations into long-term recurring clients.
You will be the face of LedgerLync in Michigan's business community, developing relationships with founders, business owners, CPAs, fractional CFOs, investors, and professional advisors who regularly encounter companies that need back-office support.
Key Responsibilities
● Build and manage a focused Michigan sales pipeline targeting founder-led and family-run businesses with 2–20 employees
● Identify and engage high-potential prospects and decision-makers across Ann Arbor, Southeast Michigan, and the broader state
● Develop strategic referral partnerships with CPAs, fractional CFOs, business advisors, investors, and community organizations such as Ann Arbor SPARK and Michigan Founders Fund
● Generate qualified intro meetings and convert prospects into recurring LedgerLync clients
● Represent LedgerLync at Michigan business and entrepreneurial community events
● Own measurable pipeline, new-client, and revenue targets with monthly reporting
● Collaborate with the LedgerLync team on proposals, onboarding handoffs, and client follow-up
Ideal Candidate
● Proven B2B sales, business development, or revenue-growth experience — preferably in professional services, financial services, accounting, or HR
● Strong existing network in Michigan's business ecosystem — particularly with founders, CPAs, fractional CFOs, or business advisors
● Existing relationships with CPA firms or fractional CFO networks in Michigan are a strong plus
● Entrepreneurial, proactive, persistent, and results-oriented — comfortable with a long trust-based sales cycle
● Exceptional relationship-building and consultative selling skills; you listen more than you talk
● Someone who loves attending local events and meeting prospects in person
● Familiarity with QuickBooks, accounting, payroll, or HR topics is helpful but not required
Compensation Structure
LedgerLync offers a competitive base salary plus performance-based commission designed to reward long-term client relationships, not just quick closes.
Commission is calculated on the annualized first-year contract value of each new client signed. Residual commission (Years 2–3) rewards reps for bringing in long-term, high-quality clients — aligned with LedgerLync's recurring revenue model.
A 90-day ramp period applies — full base salary, no quota pressure while you learn the business and build your pipeline.
Why Join LedgerLync
● Work directly with the founders — flat structure, fast decisions, no corporate bureaucracy
● Flexible schedule and autonomy — you own your pipeline and your calendar
● Recurring revenue model means your book of business compounds over time
● Strong existing referral relationships to build from
● Opportunity to grow the role as LedgerLync scales — this could become a Sales Director position
● Meaningful work helping Michigan founders build sustainable businesses
