Picture a typical week: you start near Memphis, TN, head out to a customer site in Arkansas to complete a preventive maintenance visit on a metallography system, then cross into Mississippi for a software upgrade and operator training on an analytical instrument. By Friday, you're wrapping up a tricky troubleshooting call that turns into a satisfied customer and a strengthened relationship. That's life as a Field Engineer with LECO.

About The Role

This is a full-time, remote, salaried position with frequent travel. You will be the customer-facing expert who keeps LECO's analytical and metallographic instruments performing at their best in the field. You'll spend most days at customer facilities, traveling up to five days per week, with more extensive travel when needed. Primary service territory includes Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi, with additional trips to nearby regions as required. The ideal candidate lives near Memphis, TN.

What you'll do

• Own the service lifecycle in the field—preventive/general maintenance, breakdown repair, diagnostics, and corrective actions—on LECO analytical and metallographic systems.
• Install new instruments, perform updates, and apply upgrade kits to keep customer systems current.
• Deliver hands-on and classroom-style training covering theory, instrument operation, software use, and care/maintenance best practices.
• Execute all work to LECO’s ISO accreditation standards, documenting activities accurately and completely.
  
  

Where you'll grow

• Start with 3-5 months of instrumentation training at LECO Corporation in St. Joseph, Michigan.
• Shadow and learn alongside experienced Field Service Engineers across the country.
• Return annually to LECO HQ for service training to stay sharp and current.
  
  

What it takes to thrive

• Self-driven approach with excellent written and verbal communication.
• Professional presence and strict adherence to customer site protocols and safety rules.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational discipline.
• Comfort traveling daily with up to four overnight hotel stays per week (Monday – Friday).
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Personal credit card or the ability to obtain one for business travel expenses.
• Robust mechanical aptitude and prior experience with AC/DC electronics—or the proven ability to learn quickly.
• Chemistry background or military technical training is a plus, not a requirement.
  
  

Education and pathways

• Two Year Technical Degree or Trade School, or
• Prior Military with training in a technical field, or
• Equivalent work experience or training in a technical field
